JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting for a Site Engineer (Mechanical / Piping) - Expression of Interest - 6 months to join its Singapore Business for supervising, coordinating, and executing mechanical and piping construction activities on site. This role is a full-time office-based role in Basra, Iraq with travel requirement.

Role:

Site Engineer (Structural) is responsible for supervising and supporting structural construction activities including reinforced concrete, steel structures, foundations, and architectural support works. The role ensures all site execution is completed in accordance with engineering drawings, project specifications, quality standards, and HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise structural works including:
  • Reinforced concrete foundations, slabs, pedestals
  • Structural steel fabrication & erection (pipe racks, platforms, modules)
  • Anchor bolt installation & alignment
  • Precast or in-situ structural elements
  • Ensure all activities comply with approved drawings, method statements, and ITPs.
  • Review structural drawings: GAs, rebar shop drawings, steel fabrication drawings.
  • Interpret specifications, codes, and construction standards.
  • Raise technical queries (TQs) for inconsistencies or design issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and subcontractors.

Conduct inspections with QA/QC for:
  • Formwork, rebar, and concrete pour readiness
  • Concrete tests (slump test, cube samples, curing checks)
  • Structural steel fit-up, bolt torqueing, welding inspections
  • Alignment, level, and dimension checks
  • Ensure compliance with ITPs, project specifications, and industry codes (ACI, AISC, BS, ASTM).
  • Coordinate daily activities with civil, mechanical, and E&I teams.
  • Support preparation of daily and weekly work plans.
  • Verify availability of materials, equipment, and manpower.
  • Assist in resolving workfront constraints and interface issues.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures during structural activities (e.g., working at height, lifting operations, excavation).
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and site safety inspections.
  • Enforce compliance with project HSE policies and Iraq regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare daily progress reports including manpower, equipment, completed activities, and challenges.
  • Monitor progress vs. schedule and report delays or deviations.
  • Support preparation of redline mark ups and as-built drawings.


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Diploma with strong structural experience may be considered.

Professional Experience
  • 8 -10+ years' experience in structural construction for oil & gas or industrial projects.
  • Experience in heavy concrete works and steel structure erection.
  • Middle East or Iraq remote site experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of global structural standards (ACI, AISC, ASTM, BS).
  • Proficiency in reading structural drawings & engineering documents.
  • Understanding of concrete technology, steel fabrication, and erection methods.
  • Familiarity with surveying tools (Auto Level, Total Station).
  • Competent in MS Office and PDF markup tools.
