Wood is recruiting for a Site Engineer (Mechanical / Piping) to join its Singapore Business for supervising, coordinating, and executing mechanical and piping construction activities on site.

This role is a full-time office-based role in Basra, Iraq with travel requirement.

Note: This role is for a short term basis for a period of 6 months with a potential of extension

Role:

The Site Engineer (Mechanical/Piping) is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and executing mechanical and piping construction activities on site. The role ensures that installation, testing, alignment, and fabrication works comply with project specifications, engineering drawings, and international standards, while maintaining strict adherence to quality and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise installation of piping systems, supports, valves, equipment, and mechanical packages.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, and equipment datasheets.
  • Monitor fabrication, fit-up, welding, hydrotesting, and installation activities.
  • Ensure proper alignment and installation of pumps, compressors, static and rotating equipment.
  • Coordinate daily activities with construction supervisors, foremen, and contractors.
  • Ensure availability of drawings, materials, tools, and manpower for daily tasks.
  • Assist in preparing work packs and verifying material take-offs (MTO).
  • Maintain clear communication with planning and procurement teams regarding material status.
  • Conduct inspections with QA/QC for welds, materials, spools, supports, and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with ITPs, method statements, and project specifications.
  • Support NDT activities, line checking, punch list preparation, and resolution.
  • Verify as-built documentation and redline mark-ups.
  • Support line walkdowns for MC, Pre-Comm, and Commissioning requirements.
  • Ensure hydrotest/pneumatic test packages are prepared correctly.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams for equipment runs, flushing, and functional tests.
  • Ensure mechanical/piping works follow company HSE standards and Iraq regulations.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and implement safe work practices.
  • Enforce PTW (Permit To Work) procedures especially for hot works, lifting, and confined spaces.
  • Prepare daily progress reports covering manpower, work executed, equipment, and challenges.
  • Record material usage, weld logs, joint tracking, and testing reports.
  • Report deviations, delays, and technical issues to the Construction Lead.

Expected:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Diploma holders with strong piping experience may be considered.

Professional Experience
  • 8-10+ years' experience in mechanical/piping construction on oil & gas or EPC projects.
  • Experience in piping fabrication, welding processes, hydrotesting, and mechanical equipment installation.
  • Middle East or Iraq site-based experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with brownfield works and SIMOPS is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of engineering deliverables: P&IDs, isometrics, structural support drawings.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment installation and alignment methods.
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, ASTM, and project QA/QC standards.
  • Competent with MS Office and PDF review tools (Bluebeam, Adobe).
