JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join its Iraq business unit focusing on all aspects of Electrical One‑Line Diagram updates, Hazardous Area Classification drawings, and field verification within the Facilities Surveillance section on 5/2 work schedule (5 days on/2 days off).

This role is a full-time on-site role in Basra, Iraq.

Key Objectives:

Responsible for all aspects of Electrical One‑Line Diagram updates, Hazardous Area Classification drawings, and field verification within the Facilities Surveillance section. Tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Conduct field walkdowns using existing Electrical One‑Line and Hazardous Area Classification drawings to identify discrepancies, redline updates, and verify installed equipment.
  • Follow all company procedures, electrical engineering practices, and applicable IEC/NEC/IECEx/ATEX standards.
  • Read and interpret Electrical One‑Line Diagrams, load lists, panel schedules, and hazardous area classification requirements.
  • Prepare and update electrical drawings with minimal supervision, including One‑Line Diagrams, SLDs, hazardous area layouts, and cable routing updates.
  • Apply redline (as‑built) information from engineering or field verification to update drawings accurately.
  • Use AutoCAD and the company's document management system (Aconex) proficiently.
  • Apply knowledge of IEC electrical symbols, hazardous area zones, gas groups, and temperature classes.
  • Identify electrical equipment in the field such as motors, MCCs, transformers, grounding systems, junction boxes, and Ex‑rated equipment.
  • Create and maintain electrical drawings using proper drafting standards and incorporating MOC and as‑built comments.
  • Interpret engineering mark-ups and implement required drawing corrections.
  • Maintain productive collaboration with engineering, operations, and field teams.
  • Communicate professionally in verbal and written formats.
  • Review and update other critical electrical documentation (e.g., hazardous area registers, datasheets, cable schedules).


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Drafting/Design.
  • 5+ years of experience in oil & gas electrical drafting or design (One‑Line Diagrams, SLDs, Hazardous Area Classification).
  • Experience with IEC, NEC, IECEx/ATEX, and electrical drafting standards.
  • Willing to perform field walkdowns and spend time in operational plant areas.


Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication skills with clear English (Arabic optional but beneficial).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings (One-Lines, load lists, panel schedules, Ex classification).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and drafting standards.
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong quality discipline.
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office, PDF markup tools, DMS platforms).


Systems:
  • Familiarity or experience with:
    • Aconex or similar document management systems.
    • Work management systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP PM — optional).
    • Integrity / Hazardous Area Management Systems (Ex registers, equipment databases).
