About the Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer at GustoMSC, you will play a key role in enabling the installation and operation of the current and next generation of offshore wind turbines. You will take technical ownership of complex engineering scopes, contributing to the design, verification, and lifecycle support of advanced offshore equipment such as heavy lift cranes, jacking systems, and other structural systems within the GustoMSC/NOV portfolio.
In this role, you will act as Lead Engineer on complex projects, guiding technical decision-making from concept through detailed design, construction support, and operational phases. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and support clients throughout the lifetime of their assets, including upgrades and structural assessments.
The position is based in Schiedam and reports to the Team Lead / Lead Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as Lead Engineer for complex technical scopes in newbuild, service, and upgrade projects related to GustoMSC equipment
- Design and structurally verify complex structures in compliance with applicable class rules, industry standards, and internal guidelines
- Perform structural calculations using hand calculations, available tools, and finite element (FE) software
- Take ownership of assigned scopes, ensuring delivery within agreed time and budget
- Coordinate and manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines
- Review, approve, and contribute to engineering deliverables
- Support designers in developing 3D CAD models of assigned structures
- Provide engineering input for installation, operation, and maintenance manuals
Additional Responsibilities
- Support fabricators during construction and installation phases
- Provide engineering support to clients during the operational lifetime of equipment, including upgrades and structural damage assessments
- Perform Root Cause Analyses for structural issues when required
- Contribute to the development and standardization of internal work methods
- Travel to fabricators, vendors, and construction sites when needed
Qualifications & Skills
Essential Qualifications
- MSc or BSc degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Extensive relevant experience in the design and analysis of complex structures and systems
- Strong knowledge of class rules and standards such as DNV, EN, and ABS
- Extensive experience with finite element analysis tools
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Strong analytical and planning skills, with the ability to:
- Structure complex work scopes
- Identify priorities and key technical issues
- Maintain a holistic, system-level perspective
- Proactive, analytical, and positive mindset
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience acting as Lead Engineer on complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Experience with in-house FE software NX is a strong advantage
- Experience supporting fabrication, installation, and in-service operations
- Exposure to offshore equipment such as cranes, jacking systems, or similar heavy structures
Soft Skills
- Strong project management and coordination capabilities
- Ability to lead technical discussions while remaining open to input and alternative viewpoints
- Effective team coordination and expectation management
- Ability to maintain positive, motivating collaboration within project teams
- Comfortable mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers
