Job Title: Fitter/Welder
Location: Houston, Texas
Rate: $30/hour without benefits, $35/hour with benefits
Duration: 1 Year Contract

Summary
The Fitter Welder is responsible for fitting, tacking, and welding components in accordance with detailed drawings and welding standards. Work includes fabrication of steel channels, brackets, angles, assemblies, and subassemblies, with a focus on precision, safety, and adherence to engineering specifications.
Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and EHS requirements.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Perform tack welding and certified mechanical welding as required.
  • Ensure welding qualifications meet ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code standards.
    (GTAW P8 6G test must be passed.)
  • Maintain all required welding certifications.
  • Operate cutting rigs, welding equipment, and precision measurement tools.
  • Review and interpret complex assembly instructions, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Inventory, clean, and visually inspect components; stage equipment for assembly.
  • Safely offload and handle incoming parts using proper rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities (Fabrication & Assembly Focus)
  • Fit, tack, and weld parts using fixtures while ensuring all dimensions meet drawing specifications.
  • Perform complete welds to required quality standards and correct fabrication errors.
  • Incorporate approved design changes and fabricate shop fixtures using engineering sketches.
  • Meet production schedules, maintain quality standards, and achieve labor targets with minimal supervision.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment across carbon steel, stainless steel, and low‑alloy materials.
  • Verify dimensions, interpret tolerances, and ensure accuracy per manufacturing drawings.
  • Complete shop orders, record time accurately, and maintain documentation.
  • Work independently or as part of a team; may require overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts.
  • Perform routine assignments using basic instructions and standardized procedures.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.



Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
    OR
    10 years of relevant stainless steel pipe welding experience
    (Technical certificates and work experience may be accepted in lieu of a high school diploma.)
  • 5 years of relevant experience with assembly in rotating equipment manufacturing.
  • 5 years of experience in a shop environment including welding, cutting tools, and related processes.
  • Experience performing mechanical work on gas turbines; turbine overhaul experience preferred.
  • Strong preference for applicants with expert knowledge of Turbomachinery assembly (especially RF and Datum turbo‑compressors), including:
    • Technical assembly instruction interpretation
    • Build methods
    • Sequencing of compressor internals and auxiliary systems
  • Ability to inspect, repair, replace, install, and maintain mechanical components and assemblies on gas turbines and compressor packages.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, QC, Material Control, and other production teams.
  • Must maintain and follow all EHS standards.
  • Must be able to assist with alignments and parts installation.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID‑19, unless eligible for medical or religious accommodation.
