Safety System Design Engineers – Driving Innovation in Nuclear Safety

Join a dynamic team at the forefront of nuclear engineering as a Safety System Design Engineer. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to contribute to a high-profile, three-year project based in Warrington, focused on designing and implementing critical safety systems that ensure operational excellence and compliance in a highly regulated industry. Working in a hybrid environment, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop robust electrical, control, and instrumentation solutions that protect people, assets, and the environment.

Required Skills
  • Proven experience in electrical, control, and instrumentation engineering with a strong focus on safety system design
  • Expertise in designing and verifying safety-related control systems in accordance with relevant nuclear industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in safety lifecycle processes, risk assessment, and functional safety methodologies (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61513)
  • Strong technical knowledge of control system architectures, hardware, and software integration
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex technical specifications and regulatory guidelines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience working on nuclear or other highly regulated infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with digital instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs and SCADA
  • Knowledge of project management principles and experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Exposure to safety case development and safety audit processes
  • Certification in functional safety or related professional qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in safety system design, ideally within the nuclear or energy sector
Other Requirements
  • Willingness to work on-site at the Warrington location, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available
  • Commitment to working a minimum of 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Eligibility to obtain necessary security clearances for access to nuclear facilities (if applicable)
