Project Engineer - Power T&D (Laleham 132kV Substation Extension)

You'll help deliver the full Laleham 132kV Substation Extension, integrating new bays, upgrading LVAC systems, and supporting the long-term expansion. You will be working within a highly complex, live HV environment that demands precision, smart planning, and strong technical coordination.

Alongside the Project Manager / Project Director and project team with accountability for successful project delivery including; planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/close out.

What you'll be doing

The opportunity (what you'll lead)
  • End to tend M&E delivery from detailed planning and temporary works on pre-commissioning / commissioning and clean handover
  • Turn design intent into a buildable safe, right-first-time plan: you'll run task briefs, permits and ITP's and keep quality tight with progressing assurance
  • Orchestrate interfaces with others across mechanical, electrical, P&C, civils and HV specialists: de-risk energisation windows and co-ordinate OEMs and subcontractors
  • Drive the short interval schedule ( lookaheads , constraints removal) and keep cost, change and risks visible and controlled
  • Champion zero harm and CDM :lead with clear RAMS, permits, isolations and a "stop, think, act" mindset
  • Bring people with you : brief clearly, listen actively and keep stakeholders ( client and delivery partners) full aligned
Who we're looking for

About you (skills & experience)
  • Proven M&E delivery in substations, industrial or heavy infrastructure,
    comfortable with method statements, permits, ITPs, TQs, change, and site
    leadership.
  • Confident interpreting drawings/specs and translating them into safe,
    sequenced work.
  • Strong planner/communicator who keeps lookaheads realistic, removes
    blockers, and holds a calm line under time pressure.
  • r="ltr">HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical or Electrical (or equivalent). SMSTS/SSSTS,
    CSCS/ECS desirable; National Grid/substation experience a plus
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
  • An organised, innovative and creative Project Engineer with knowledge and
    experience of working on Projects who is proficient commercial/project
    management communications
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes through solutions-based
    approach to problem solving
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at
    all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical
    stakeholders
  • Awareness and promotion the benefits of diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstration of resilience and determination to succeed
  • Proactively develop others around you including junior members of the team
  • Identify and drive personal development
  • Proficient on O365
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:
  • Holds or working towards a formal qualification in construction/engineering or
    equivalent industry experience
  • Holds or desire to work towards either the APM PFQ/PMQ
  • Holds CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent
