This Position reports to:

Your role and responsibilities

Automation Service Canada is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer to support the full lifecycle of ABB Distributed Control Systems (800xA) and Quality Control Systems (QCS) at customer sites. Responsibilities include performing preventive and corrective maintenance, conducting testing and troubleshooting of ABB proprietary hardware and software, and assisting with projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced service activities.

Located near Vancouver, reporting to the Service Manager, you will act as a field service representative providing on-site and remote services to customers. You will work with other ABB field service personnel in Western Canada, with an extended network of professionals within Canada, North America and globally.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Handle customer service-related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on-site. Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment by applying technical knowledge, diagnostic skills, and experience to identify and resolve problems.
  • Maintain ABB's suite of Quality Control Systems (QCS) hardware and software, including sensor verification and troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues, controls troubleshooting, to ensure proper system functionality.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process‑related problems, provide clear recommendations to customers, and implement effective technical solutions. Identifies improvement needs and potential solutions.
  • Prepare, deliver, and present service documentation including reports for new installations, maintenance activities, audits, and advanced services.
  • Travel regularly within Western Canada-and occasionally across Canada, the United States, and internationally-to provide on‑site services, project support, and training as required.

Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or College Diploma with a focus on Instrumentation and Control.
  • Strong customer focus and the ability to relate well to customer needs, strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills. Deliver quality customer service to ensure customer satisfaction
  • More than 5 years' experience with industrial automation and electrical systems and associated controls. Knowledge and field experience with ABB control systems, 800xA and/or Quality Control System (QCS) is an asset.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills. Mechanical/Electrical aptitude is strongly preferred; Candidates must be comfortable using basic hand tools and measuring equipment
  • Strong IT skillset, knowledge and experience with Microsoft operating systems, virtualization, cyber security and networking setup & troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to work in a multi-disciplined service environment, often in high pressure situations.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and speak effectively with customers
  • Health, Safety & Environment focus with excellent safety track record

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $107,625 and 157,850 annually. This position is a replacement of a current role
