About the Role We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment to take ownership of rotating machinery performance and maintenance strategy within a major midstream oil & gas operation in East Africa.
This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and lifecycle management of critical rotating assets including export pumps, generator packages, firewater pumps, and loading systems. The position plays a central role in optimizing maintenance execution, contractor performance, and asset efficiency during start-up and the first years of operations.
The successful candidate will be the focal point for all rotating equipment matters, interfacing closely with operations, maintenance teams, contractors, and technical support functions.

The successful candidate will be the focal point for all rotating equipment matters, interfacing closely with operations, maintenance teams, contractors, and technical support functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monitoring and maintenance strategy implementation for major rotating equipment (high-capacity pumps, diesel/crude generators, emergency generators, firewater systems, loading arms).
- Manage and oversee specific maintenance contracts (SMCs), ensuring contractor compliance with technical and performance standards.
- Drive equipment reliability, availability, and cost optimization through KPI analysis and maintenance plan improvements.
- Prepare and supervise major overhauls and maintenance campaigns.
- Ensure effective condition monitoring practices (including vibration analysis) and CMMS data integrity.
- Lead lifecycle and obsolescence management strategies for rotating equipment packages.
- Develop and monitor contractor performance indicators and support tendering, scope development, and technical clarifications.
- Support stock and spare parts strategy aligned with equipment criticality and repair capabilities.
- Provide technical diagnosis and guidance for major equipment failures and review contractor action plans.
- Contribute to 90-day, 5-week, and long-term maintenance planning cycles.
- Coach and develop local technicians to build long-term operational autonomy.
- Promote strong HSSE culture and ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and security standards.
Qualifications & Experience Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Bac 5 equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Rotating Machinery, or equivalent experience.
- Professional Engineer registration (ERB or equivalent).
- Fluency in English.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in rotating machinery within oil & gas or heavy industrial environments.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance and maintenance methodologies (RCM, condition monitoring, CMMS).
- Strong competence in vibration analysis and equipment performance diagnostics.
- Proven experience managing maintenance teams and contractors.
- Strong analytical skills, autonomy, leadership, and organizational capability.
