The project will create a 3.2-gigawatt power station producing low-carbon electricity for at least 60 years. It will sit alongside Sizewell B, which has been operating since 1995 and has already prevented more than 76 million tonnes of carbon emissions.

Role Overview

A Senior Engineer is required to join the SZC (MEHA Engineering Team) team to support the wider engineering objectives.

The prime objective will be to support the Piping EDL as a direct report within the MEHA Engineering team.

Working with the MEHA Project team, the Senior Engineer will ensure the safe and effective delivery of the MEHA engineering design scope to time, quality and cost

What you'll be doing

Interface Management
  • Work with Execution Designers to support development of their respective Design Management Plan and acceptance of the plan prior to commencing Execution Design .
  • Ensure information issued to suppliers, manufacturers and installers (i.e. the execution designs) is consistent with the design information.
  • Create a positive and proactive relationship with respective CEL & corresponding Area Manager/PM
Opportunities Identification and Realisation
  • Lead the assessment of the impact of design changes and the optimal means of implementing design changes into the MEHA's scope.
  • Support the development of the business case needed to justify changes to the design.
Governance, Risk Management & TQs
  • Support resolution of manufacturing TQs and NCRs.
  • Establish and chair regular Technical Progress Review sessions to optimise resolution of technical queries and issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on Execution Design to Programme manager
Optimisation of MEH Engineering Processes/Design
  • Provide constructability inputs to the pre-HO1 design studies and activities.
  • Optimise, simplify and standardise the implementation of the detailed design definitions (e.g. standardising the manufacturing configurations)
Engineering Performance and Delivery
  • Produce/oversee the production of technical procurement specifications for bulk MEH items & materials (extracting the relevant and applicable information from the corresponding specifications and detailed design inputs).
  • Lead MEHA inputs into the Collaboration Phase
  • Responsible for reviewing and accepting the As-Defined configuration hierarchies.
  • Validate (for use within the MEHA's digital tools) As-Defined configuration identities and PCI relating to As-Defined items.
  • Review Execution Design and associated design documentation to assure the manufacturability & constructability and provide technical recommendation for receipt acceptance to programme manager at HO2. The CEL will review the Execution Design to assure maintenance of the design intent and technically accept the Execution Design.
Who we're looking for
  • Engineering Degree Qualified or Equivalent.
  • Proven experience in engineering delivery within the nuclear sector or comparable highly regulated environments, such as major onshore UK or international infrastructure projects, and/or offshore/onshore Oil & Gas.
  • Experience managing end-to-end engineering delivery, from design office activities through to implementation and execution on site.
  • Exposure in identifying project hazards and risks, including contributing to risk assessments, and developing appropriate safeguards and mitigation measures during project execution.
  • Experience supporting project planning activities, including the preparation of workstream-specific project risk assessments.
  • Experience of working with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) within complex engineering or construction projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of applying safe working practices, aligned to statutory requirements and corporate standards, within engineering or construction environments.
