This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we've announced the plan for SoftBank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. SoftBank is a globally recognized technology group and investor/operator focused on AI, robotics, and next-generation computing. This Position reports to:
Operations Manager

Your Role: Own the Challenge

In this position, you will act as the commissioning lead for highly complex projects and ensure that all commissioning activities are delivered effectively and cost-efficiently, in line with contractual specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable cybersecurity policies and standards. At the same time, you will drive technical advancement in robot programming and (on-/offline) programming combined with simulation, and serve as the senior technical escalation point for critical decisions.

  • You plan and manage commissioning across the full project lifecycle by creating commissioning schedules, work plans and cost estimates, coordinating resources, and ensuring execution within the agreed timeline, quality and budget.
  • You drive standardization and continuous improvement of methods, processes and programming standards, with a clear focus on robot programming to reduce on-site commissioning time and to shift programming activities to the local site where feasible.
  • You advance on-/offline programming in combination with simulation by identifying and implementing new techniques and solutions that meet current and emerging customer and business needs, ensuring they are practical, scalable and sustainably adopted in projects.
  • You act as the senior technical escalation and decision-making level, lead risk and opportunity assessments for assigned projects, manage senior-level customer interfaces with tailored solutions, and contribute to complex technical support topics as needed.

What it takes to Run what runs the world
  • Degree in electrical engineering, automation, robotics or a comparable field (HTL, University/University of Applied Sciences).
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in commissioning and/or automation projects, ideally in a senior or lead role on complex customer projects.
  • Strong expertise in industrial robot programming and commissioning practices, including a proven track record of reducing on-site commissioning time through standardization and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with on-/offline programming and simulation tools, and the ability to transfer these approaches into scalable project execution.
  • Solid understanding of project execution fundamentals (planning, scheduling, resource coordination, cost awareness) and the ability to deliver against time, quality and budget targets.
  • Proven ability to lead technical risk and opportunity assessments and to act as a senior technical escalation point with sound judgement under pressure.
  • Strong customer-facing skills, including confident communication with senior stakeholders and the ability to deliver tailored technical solutions.
  • Willingness to travel nationally up to 25% as required by project needs.
