Job Description Summary

The Future of Flight Engine Performance Subsection Manager will lead the team responsible for aero-thermal performance modeling, development, and demonstration of next-generation commercial engine technologies supporting CFM RISE and other Future of Flight initiatives.

In this role, you will provide both technical and people leadership, integrating engine performance activities across disciplines such as Aero, Heat Transfer, Operability, Controls, and Transient Analysis. You will drive program execution, ensure performance targets and milestones are met, and foster a culture focused on safety, inclusion, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. This is a critical leadership role that shapes how our engines perform today and how they define the future of flight.

Job Description

What You'll Do
  • Lead engine performance strategy and execution for Future of Flight and CFM RISE demonstration programs, ensuring alignment with overall engine and system-level objectives.
  • Own the performance modeling and test roadmap, including aero-thermal performance models, technology demonstrations, and key performance deliverables across assigned programs.
  • Integrate cross-functional performance activities with Aero, Heat Transfer, Engine Operability, Engine Controls, Engine Transient Analysis, Systems, and Preliminary Design teams to solve complex propulsion challenges.
  • Ensure performance targets, margins, and program milestones are met, proactively identifying risks and driving mitigation through technical rigor and clear action plans.
  • Guide engine and rig test plans from a performance standpoint, ensuring test coverage supports technology maturation, validation, and risk reduction.
  • Drive validation and verification of engine performance across the full operating envelope, using test data to refine models and improve prediction fidelity.
  • Manage interfaces between performance and adjacent disciplines, ensuring clear requirements, consistent assumptions, and seamless data exchange.
  • Leverage lean / FLIGHT DECK operating rhythms to continuously improve the capability, efficiency, and responsiveness of the Engine Performance & Operability organization.
  • Provide day-to-day people leadership for the performance subsection, including technical mentoring, training, performance feedback, and career development for engineers.
  • Lead hiring and talent development activities, building a strong, diverse, and engaged performance team.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, compliance, and inclusion, setting clear expectations and modeling desired behaviors.
  • Collaborate globally with performance engineers across sites, including the US and Mexico, to ensure a "one team" approach to performance engineering and shared best practices.
  • Communicate complex performance topics clearly to internal stakeholders, leadership, and external partners, enabling sound technical and program decisions.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You're a performance-focused engineering leader with deep technical experience in engine performance and aero-thermal systems. You're energized by complex engine challenges and motivated by the opportunity to guide a team that sits at the heart of engine capability and efficiency. You enjoy connecting the dots between disciplines, building strong teams, and delivering on ambitious program goals.

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Have a strong background in engine performance, aero-thermal modeling, or gas turbine propulsion systems.
  • Are comfortable owning performance models, test plans, and performance deliverables across the full lifecycle of demonstration programs.
  • Excel at cross-functional collaboration and can bring together Aero, Heat Transfer, Operability, Controls, and Systems teams around shared performance objectives.
  • Are proactive in identifying performance risks and opportunities, and you drive clear, data-based mitigation and improvement actions.
  • Enjoy leading and mentoring engineers, building capability, and fostering a culture of learning, inclusion, and technical excellence.
  • Are motivated by the chance to shape the performance of next-generation engines that will define the future of flight.

What You'll Bring

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering role, with at least 5 years directly in engine performance or a closely related aero-thermal discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating performance activities with adjacent disciplines such as Aero, Heat Transfer, Operability, Controls, or Transient Analysis.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer employment visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in engine performance, gas turbine or aero engine development, or related propulsion engineering.
  • Experience leading engineering teams or subsections, including mentoring, performance management, and talent development.
  • Exposure to engine preliminary design, engine architecture trades, or performance-driven design decisions.
  • Familiarity with engine test planning, performance data reduction, and correlation of models to test data.
  • Strong program management skills, with a track record of delivering on technical and schedule commitments.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and customer mindset, able to connect performance decisions to customer value, safety, and lifecycle cost.
  • Experience working with global, cross-functional teams, including coordination across multiple sites and cultures.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, including exposure to lean, FLIGHT DECK, or similar operating models.
