Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute engineering strategies aligned with company goals.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve product quality, reduce costs, and optimize throughput.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations for investment or adoption.
Technical Oversight
- Oversee CNC programming, tooling design, process engineering, and NPI (New Product Introduction).
- Ensure engineering documentation (CAD/CAM, routers, BOMs, etc.) meets internal and customer standards.
- Collaborate with Quality and Production to resolve technical challenges.
Team Management
- Mentor and develop engineering staff; ensure training on latest tools and aerospace manufacturing best practices.
- Lead performance reviews, hiring, and organizational planning.
Customer and Program Support
- Act as technical liaison with customers, especially for DFMA feedback and first article inspections (FAIs).
- Support program management in quoting and technical feasibility analysis.
Process Improvement
- Champion lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Standardize engineering practices and promote automation where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field or a HS Diploma/GED with 4 years of Manufacturing experience
- 5+ years of experience in precision machining for aerospace or defense.
Desired Characteristics
- Deep knowledge of CNC machining, GD&T, CAD/CAM (Mastercam, NX, CATIA), and ERP/MRP systems.
- Familiarity with FAA, DoD, and ITAR compliance regulations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
- Experience with 5-axis machining and exotic materials (e.g., Inconel, Titanium).
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt).
- Knowledge of digital manufacturing (Industry 4.0, smart factory integration).
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
