JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role

NOV is seeking a Site Mechanical Engineer to support onshore pre-commissioning activities in Stord, Norway, followed by offshore commissioning work on the same process units. This role is designed to ensure technical continuity, knowledge retention, and safe, efficient execution across both project phases.

The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated NOV site team, working on rotation with full back-office engineering and project support. Continuity across the onshore and offshore phases is essential to maintain technical ownership and deliver consistent, high-quality commissioning outcomes.

Location:

Onshore: Stord, Norway (Pre-Commissioning)

Offshore: Norway (Commissioning on the same units)

Rotation:

Onshore (Stord): 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off

Offshore (Norway): 2 weeks on / 4 weeks off

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain technical ownership and continuity across both project phases
  • Perform mechanical inspections, checks, and system verification
  • Support mechanical completion and system handover to commissioning
  • Commission and start up:
    • Seawater treatment units
    • Gas dehydration units
    • Associated rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, motors, etc.)
  • Monitor, test, and troubleshoot rotating and static mechanical equipment
  • Interface with vendors, offshore operations, and NOV back-office engineering support
  • Ensure compliance with NOV standards, NORSOK requirements, project specifications, and HSE regulations
  • Provide accurate technical reporting and structured handover documentation
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary NOV team
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 2-3 years' experience in mechanical engineering roles within oil & gas or energy projects
  • Proven hands-on experience with:
    • Seawater treatment units
    • Gas dehydration units
    • Rotating equipment (mandatory)
  • Experience with pre-commissioning and/or commissioning activities
  • Offshore Norway experience is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Strong practical understanding of rotating and static mechanical equipment
  • High level of HSE awareness and commitment to safety standards
  • Fluent in English; Norwegian language skills are beneficial but not required
  • Seaman's Book preferred (assistance available if required)

  • Strong team player, comfortable working in rotational onshore and offshore environments
  • Effective communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to maintain focus and continuity across extended project durations
  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors and remote engineering support teams
