Job Description Summary

Here at Dowty (a GE Aerospace company) we have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Level 2 Non-Destructive Testing engineer to join our onsite team in Brockworth near Gloucester. This is a Level 3 NDT development role, where you'll get the opportunity to employ your Level 2 expertise as you're trained and coached up to Level 3 NDT qualification.

As you progress towards Level 3, you'll have the chance to work in conjunction with the current nominated Business NDT Level 3, developing techniques, infrastructure and your fellow engineers to ensure the structural integrity and quality of our products. All the while maintaining procedures in compliance to BSEN 4179:2020 and training our supply chain in a range of NDT techniques.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • You will have technical responsibility for NDT across Dowty Propellers' range of composite and metallic products.
  • You will help ensure structural integrity and product quality, and develop and train a diverse team in a range of NDT techniques, including:
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) - Contact and immersion methods: A, B and C scan
  • Radiographic Testing (RT) - X Ray, Film and Non-Film methods
  • Eddy current Testing (ET) - Static and dynamic phase analysis methods
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) - fluorescent wet continuous method
  • Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT) - Fluorescent Post emulsified, solvent removable
  • Bond Testing (BT)
  • Acid Etch Inspection
  • Collaborate with the design and development teams supporting NPI programs.
  • Establish and approve NDT methods and techniques and supporting procedures in line with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and support qualification and ongoing approval of a team of NDT technicians and contractors, develop training plans and keep records for all NDT levels and determine techniques to be applied across the product range.
  • Directly support daily operations, offering clear guidance on detected defects, and work closely with MRB engineers to determine corrective actions.
  • Contribute to wider business problem-solving and continuous improvement projects.


Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum requirement of NDT Level 2 qualification in two of the above specified NDT techniques (Ultrasonics and X-ray highly desirable)
  • Willingness to complete Level 3 qualifications and qualifying criteria for at least one technique within 24 months (we will support your development)
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in a related field, plus relevant NDT qualifications.

  • Ability to read complex engineering drawings
  • Understanding of audit techniques
  • Ability to develop and document processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems using structured problem solving techniques
  • Understanding of CAA CAP747 GR23
  • Ability to author work instructions and procedures
  • Experience in a design and development environment ideally with an understanding of APQP
  • Experience of working in an AS9100 approved business.
