The role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Management & Automation Commissioning Engineer to join our team. In this critical role, you will lead the commissioning, testing, and validation of Power Management Systems (PMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC), Microgrid Controllers (MGC), and Power Automation systems across diverse sectors including Oil & Gas, Industrial, Utilities, and Renewable Energy projects.

You will serve as the technical authority for power management system integration, ensuring grid code compliance, optimizing plant performance, implementing load shedding schemes, generator control systems, and delivering world-class commissioning services to our clients across the MENA region and beyond.

Key Responsibilities :
Power Management Systems (PMS)
  • Lead the commissioning and configuration of Power Management Systems (PMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC), and Microgrid Controllers (MGC)
  • Design, configure, and commission Load Shedding Systems including:
  • Under-frequency load shedding (UFLS) schemes
  • Under-voltage load shedding (UVLS) schemes
  • Priority-based load shedding and restoration sequences
  • Fast load shedding for generator protection
  • Spinning reserve management and load forecasting
  • Configure and commission Generator Control Systems including:
  • Multiple generator synchronization and paralleling
  • Load sharing (droop and isochronous modes)
  • Peak shaving and base load management
  • Black start sequencing and island mode operation
  • Grid synchronization and export/import control
  • Automatic start/stop sequencing based on load demand
  • Implement power balancing and economic dispatch algorithms
  • Interface with utility SCADA/EMS for remote set-point control and Automatic Generation Control (AGC)
Power Plant Control (Renewable & Hybrid)
  • Implement and tune PPC control modes including:
  • Active power control (curtailment, ramp rate limiting, set-point control)
  • Reactive power control modes (Q(U), Q(P), Power Factor, Voltage regulation)
  • Frequency response control (Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary response)
  • Fault Ride Through (FRT) parameter configuration and testing
  • Configure and commission Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) control including SOC management, charge/discharge scheduling, and hybrid dispatch optimization
  • Implement hybrid plant coordination (Solar PV + Wind + BESS + Diesel/Gas Generators)
Power Automation & Communication Systems
  • Design, implement, and commission Power Automation systems for Oil & Gas, Industrial, and Utility applications
  • Develop, test, and troubleshoot communication networks utilizing IP networking (UDP/TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs), industrial firewalls, and gateways
  • Configure and test multiple communication protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE), DNP3, and IEC 60870-5-101/103/104
  • Program and configure PLC/RTU systems for power management applications
  • Implement cybersecurity measures as per IEC 62351 and industry best practices
  • Configure Historian systems for data archiving, trending, and analytics
Testing & Commissioning
  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with equipment manufacturers
  • Lead Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as per approved client formats and procedures
  • Conduct point-to-point communication testing with all electrical equipment (generators, switchgear, transformers, meters, relays)
  • Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) testing
  • Execute load shedding simulation tests and generator trip scenarios
  • Validate system performance against design specifications and contractual requirements
  • Execute grid code compliance testing and prepare compliance documentation
Project Coordination & Documentation
  • Monitor site team progress and distribute work as per customer commissioning schedule
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers (generators, switchgear, transformers, relays, meters) and clients
  • Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, test records, and as-built documentation
  • Conduct on-site customer training on PMS, EMS, and Power Automation systems
  • Support strategic planning and analysis for short-term and long-term project commissioning

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, or Power Systems Engineering
  • Minimum 7-8 years in Power Management and Automation Systems commissioning
  • Experience in sectors like Oil & Gas, Industrial, Utilities, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation
  • Proven track record in load shedding, generator control, and power balancing systems
  • International project experience is preferred
