Ex Tech – Electrical/EX Specialist (Ruya Batch 1 MP FOPS)
Location: Onshore – Qingdao, China; Offshore – Al Shaheen Field (Rotation 28/28)

Overview
A leading oil and gas project is seeking an EX Technical Specialist / Inspector to support electrical and EX commissioning activities during both onshore yard and offshore operations. The role provides technical expertise, operational support, and safety oversight for EX and electrical equipment during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and first power-up phases.
Key Responsibilities

Assist Field Operations Lead in updating and confirming EX registrations and pre-commissioning activities on EX equipment

Review, execute, and witness electrical Operational Test Procedures (OTPs) and commissioning activities including loop tests and function tests

Prepare black start procedures and operate electrical equipment as required

Support production teams to ensure safe first power-up and readiness for start-up

Coordinate with Operating Authority, Commissioning Site Leader, and start-up supervisors to develop power-up sequences, risk assessments, and permit-to-work activities

Monitor and follow-up corrective actions, punch lists, and electrical isolations/de-isolations

Participate in HAZID, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for new facilities

Advise on inhibitions, isolations, and associated certificates and risk assessments

Maintain local signage, barriers, and safe walkways within SimOps areas
-
Ensure operators are trained and familiar with new safety systems and process upgrades

Contribute to incident-free initiatives by reporting anomalies, defects, or unsafe practices
Qualifications & Experience

Higher National Diploma or equivalent (A-levels + 2 years study)

Minimum 5 years of experience in Oil & Gas production operations

Qualified EX Inspector (Compex certified) with proven operational responsibility for EX equipment

Previous offshore experience with electrical scopes and EX inspections

Experience with O&G commissioning, start-up procedures, and EX regulatory compliance

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration
Technical & Safety Competencies

T-BOSIET and H2S training (OPITO approved)

Basic firefighting and emergency response knowledge

NOC PTW and JSA awareness

Hazard & Energy Control, Lockout/Tagout procedures

Fluent in written and spoken English

Proficient in basic computer applications
