Job Overview
The Field Engineer III - M/LWD is responsible for executing Measurement and Logging While Drilling operations at the wellsite, ensuring accurate data acquisition, tool reliability, and high-quality service delivery. The role applies advanced technical knowledge of downhole telemetry systems, directional sensors, and real-time data transmission technologies.

At this level, the engineer operates with limited supervision, performs on-site engineering validations, troubleshoots complex M/LWD tool failures, and supports job planning and execution. The position serves as the primary technical interface with the client at the rig site and contributes to operational performance improvement through data analysis, failure investigations, and procedural optimization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA); ensure full compliance with HSE standards.
  • Plan and execute M/LWD operations, including tool preparation, function testing, mobilization, rig-up/rig-down, and demobilization.
  • Configure, test, and maintain M/LWD tools, surface systems, and telemetry equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Monitor real-time drilling data (directional, gamma, resistivity, vibration, pressure, etc.) and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Perform on-site engineering checks, including survey validation, toolface verification, telemetry optimization, and real-time troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and resolve downhole tool failures, signal issues, and surface system malfunctions efficiently.
  • Submit accurate job documentation, including daily reports, end-of-well reports, service tickets, and system entries within required timelines.
  • Maintain wellsite inventory, consumables, and spare parts to ensure operational continuity.
  • Coordinate with the R&M team on equipment failures and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison with the client, providing data interpretation and operational recommendations.
  • Support installation and commissioning of complex M/LWD systems.
  • Mentor junior field engineers and crew members as required.
  • Remain available on a 24-hour call-out basis to meet operational demands.

Skills
  • Proven exposure and hands-on experience in M/LWD operations (mandatory).
  • Strong understanding of downhole telemetry systems (mud pulse, EM), directional drilling principles, and formation evaluation fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, and drilling dynamics.
  • Proficiency in real-time data acquisition systems and drilling software platforms.
  • Strong analytical thinking and complex troubleshooting capability.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interpret technical data for clients.
  • Time management and prioritization skills in high-pressure rig environments.
  • Strong safety awareness and service quality orientation.
  • Sound judgment aligned with operational standards and company policies.
  • Physical capability to perform field-based and rig-site tasks safely.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related Science discipline (minimum requirement).
  • 5-6 years of experience in oil & gas, preferably within drilling, directional drilling, and M/LWD operations.
