Overview
We have an exciting and innovative new team focused on new and groundbreaking projects, allowing a chance to influence future design decisions - and we want you to be part of it! For this role, you can be based in either our Pickering or Mississauga, ON, offices, within a hybrid working environment.
As the Engineering Manager, Design Integration, reporting to the Engineering Director, New Build FEED, you will act as both a systems design integration lead and the people leader for a growing team of innovative and creative discipline-focused engineers.
The team is in "start-up mode", so this is a hands-on position, with everyone helping to achieve our commitments, and go above and beyond to impress our clients. Our team will always be the first in the door with potential new build clients, so enabling follow-on large-scale projects for our company and repeat business for ourselves are our goals.

Your role
Technical Leadership
- Be accountable for ensuring delivery of all assigned engineering and licensing activities and deliverables to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Coordinate, oversee, and where necessary support the technical work of others performing the team's core activities.
- Facilitate and drive the integration of all relevant disciplines and specialty groups for each project, both your own team and resources from other teams, into a cohesive effort that proceeds effectively and in an integrated manner from concept to production, and beyond (testing, commissioning, operation, etc.).
- Lead the identification and management of programmatic, technical, and operational risks associated with engineering activities for each project.
- Plan and ensure completed an appropriate level of design integration and holistic systems engineering for the active projects, applying modern systems engineering principles in line with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE).
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits, licensing, and compliance with approved plans, as applicable.
- Support the Engineering Manager, Regulatory and Engagement in ensuring all required licensing submissions related to the project are identified and completed, reviewing and supporting other discipline engineers in preparing their topic-specific licensing submissions as required.
- Review and comment on the non-designated technical work performed by your team to ensure suitable scope, accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with company QA programs and manuals, as well as the specific requirements of the customer and project scope.
People Management and Team Development
- Work with the Director and other senior leads to develop an ethos of support, mentorship, authenticity, and psychological safety that enables the formation of a cohesive high-performing team.
- Set realistic but suitably challenging goals for your team, keeping them focused on the correct priorities and regularly monitoring their achievements towards those goals.
- Promote and support opportunities for professional development, mentoring, and stretch assignments for your team.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and manage team resources effectively.
- Assess workload, manage team resource assignments, support the Director in developing resourcing plans, and participate in recruitment activities.
- Support identification and analysis of relevant project and team key performance indicators and metrics.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate successful project outcomes.
- Support business development in the team through delivering quality on-time work, cultivating valued contacts with customer counterparts through technical excellence, and supporting the preparation of engineering estimates and technical write-ups for proposals.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of team and company processes and systems.
- Support the company in implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness in project delivery.
About you
- Degree from an accredited university in Systems Design, Industrial, or Process Engineering, or other suitable cross-cutting engineering program.
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in design and integration of complex systems required, with at least 2 years' experience in nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
- Experience designing complex systems and providing systems integration engineering support to their construction, commissioning, modification, and/or decommissioning is required. Knowledge of nuclear facility modification (i.e., controlled engineering change) process is an asset.
- Experience in technical leadership is required, gained through planning, managing, and overseeing required project activities and deliverables.
- Licensed by a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada is required. A licensed Professional Engineer from a Canadian provincial Professional Engineering organization (e.g., PEO) is preferred.
- Technical awareness of all relevant engineering disciplines is required. Deeper experience in one or more relevant engineering domains or specialist areas (e.g., mechanical, structural, instrumentation and control, electrical) is an asset.
- Proven technical risk and project management skills to allow for the effective planning and tracking of engineering development activities.
- Membership and participation in a recognized systems engineering professional body, such as INCOSE, is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex systems from a blank canvas through to completion, identifying potential risks and effective solutions.
- Desire and demonstrated ability to innovate and improve engineering activities and deliverables using emerging technologies is an asset.
- Basic understanding of the licensing framework and required submissions within the Canadian nuclear industry is required. Awareness of or experience applying regulatory requirements in other countries is an asset.
- Knowledge of, and experience working within established nuclear industry quality assurance requirements, procedures, and practices is required.
- Demonstrated people leadership skills and ability to oversee both the work outcomes and personal aspects of team development.
- Effective organizational skills, including demonstrated skill in time management and setting priorities, with proven ability to manage technical activities effectively under tight schedules and budget.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, as well as communicating and working effectively with external customer and regulator stakeholders.
- Must be able to travel to client sites as required, according to specific project needs.
