The Mains & Safety team within Development & Engineering plays a key role in designing safety-critical handling systems for ASML's lithography machines. These systems must perform reliably under a wide range of conditions to support system uptime and product quality. This internship supports that mission by improving how we validate the reliability of I/O modules returned from the field. You will help the team strengthen diagnostic capability while contributing to lower environmental impact and reduced Cost of Goods. This is a chance to gain hands-on experience in a highly innovative and international environment.
Your assignment
You will design and implement a complete testbench that combines hardware and software to verify the safety, performance, and functional integrity of PLC-based I/O modules. Your work will help ensure consistent, repeatable, and traceable testing that supports automated decision-making on module reuse or replacement. You will also deliver clear documentation and present your findings to the team.

- Develop software that measures key electrical and communication parameters.
- Create automated pass/fail classification and reporting tools.
- Validate the testbench under different operating conditions.
- Analyze test results and support root-cause investigations.
- Document the full methodology and write a clear technical report.
- Present your approach, results, and recommendations to the team.

Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
- Are a bachelor's or master's student in electrical engineering or a related degree.
- Have practical experience with PLC hardware and TIA-Portal.
- Are analytical and comfortable working with measurement and verification methods.
- Enjoy building structured solutions and automating manual processes.
- Work collaboratively and take a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Other requirements you need to meet:
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
- Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
- You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
- If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
