As a Process Engineer at our Haverhill manufacturing site, you will support daily plant operations, troubleshoot process issues, lead improvement initiatives, and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will also contribute to the successful introduction of new products from lab to commercial scale, ensuring safe and efficient implementation.
You will be a central part of our production team, applying engineering principles, continuous improvement tools, and strong safety standards to deliver operational excellence.

As a Process Engineer at our Haverhill manufacturing site, you will support daily plant operations, troubleshoot process issues, lead improvement initiatives, and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will also contribute to the successful introduction of new products from lab to commercial scale, ensuring safe and efficient implementation.
You will be a central part of our production team, applying engineering principles, continuous improvement tools, and strong safety standards to deliver operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow and promote all Health & Safety procedures, supporting a strong "Commit to Zero" culture.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA activities across the site.
- Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory safety and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain operating procedures, engineering instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Provide technical support to resolve production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, consistency, and cost-effectiveness through Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, and other CI tools.
- Support or lead elements of site projects, including improvements to equipment, processes, and plant layout.
- Work with Technical and Maintenance teams to enhance process design and equipment reliability.
- Investigate manufacturing variances, ELD inaccuracies, and process inconsistencies to implement corrective actions.
- Manage the implementation of new products from lab to plant, working closely with R&D/Technical teams.
- Prepare manufacturing documentation and provide operator training for new processes or equipment.
- Ensure smooth, safe, and compliant product transfers.
- Work effectively with Production, Maintenance, Technical, Projects, and senior leadership.
- Model IFF's foundation principles: Act as an Owner, Be Agile, Collaborate and Win Together.
Required
- Minimum HNC or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 3+ years' experience in a chemical production environment.
- Demonstrated experience with vacuum distillation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- CAD experience.
- Proven experience supporting project implementation and close-out.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with all levels of the organisation.
- IT literacy including SAP, MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Lean Six Sigma training or willingness to undertake certification.
- Experience in the fragrance ingredients or specialty chemicals industry.
