Job Purpose
Responsible for the engineering and planning of complex Heavy Lift and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) cargo movements, with a primary focus on marine transport involving Heavy Lift and MPP vessels, as well as associated barge and port load-out operations and supporting land transport interfaces. You will engineer and support bespoke marine transport, stowage and load-out solutions for ad-hoc and project-based operations, involving Heavy Lift and MPP vessels, deck carriers, barges, SPMTs, hydraulic platform trailers. The role spans early feasibility through execution support, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant with international standards, and operationally sound.

Job Purpose
Responsible for the engineering and planning of complex Heavy Lift and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) cargo movements, with a primary focus on marine transport involving Heavy Lift and MPP vessels, as well as associated barge and port load-out operations and supporting land transport interfaces. You will engineer and support bespoke marine transport, stowage and load-out solutions for ad-hoc and project-based operations, involving Heavy Lift and MPP vessels, deck carriers, barges, SPMTs, hydraulic platform trailers. The role spans early feasibility through execution support, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant with international standards, and operationally sound.
Principal Accountabilities
- Engineer Heavy Lift and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) transport solutions with a primary focus on marine transport using Heavy Lift and MPP vessels, including associated port and land transport interfaces.
- Plan the safe and efficient stowage of OOG and heavy cargo on vessels for both feasibility studies and live projects.
- Develop and optimise stowage plans for different vessel types, considering cargo dimensions, weight distribution, securing requirements, vessel stability, structural strength, and overall safety.
- Develop and verify seafastening, lifting, rigging, and lashing designs and calculations.
- Plan and assess barge and deck carrier load-outs, including marine transport concepts and operational methodologies.
- Evaluate deck strength, load spreading systems and grillage structures.
- Engineer and support SPMT and hydraulic platform trailer transports, including route studies, site assessments, and feasibility reviews.
- Produce high-quality AutoCAD drawings, method statements, and complete technical work packages suitable for execution and third-party review.
- Interface with Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS) and technically support approval process.
- Review, assess, and approve subcontractor engineering deliverables, including stowage, lifting, and transport calculations.
- Support technical proposals, tenders, vessel selection and feasibility studies for complex and large-scale projects.
- Participate in client, port, vessel owner, and contractor meetings, clearly presenting engineering concepts and execution strategies.
- Collaborate closely with commercial, operations, and HSE teams to deliver safe and commercially viable solutions.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate engineering and execution risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including innovative vessel stowage concepts and optimization of marine transport methodologies.
- Strong expertise in Heavy Lift and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) transport engineering, across marine, port, and/or land transport environments.
- Solid technical understanding of:
- Lifting, rigging, and lashing design
- Cargo securing and seafastening systems
- Deck strength, load spreading and grillage design
- Marine transport fundamentals, including stability and structural considerations
- Proven ability to develop, review, and verify engineering calculations, drawings, and execution methodologies for complex project cargo operations.
- Strong working knowledge of IMO requirements, DNV-ST-N001 and related international lifting and transport standards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD for engineering layouts, stowage plans, and transport drawings.
- Ability to independently manage complex engineering scopes with minimal supervision, from feasibility through execution support.
- Excellent technical writing, problem-solving, and presentation skills, with the confidence to clearly communicate engineering solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, capable of working effectively in multicultural and international project environments.
- Willingness to travel as required
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- More than 4 years of relevant experience in Heavy Lift, Out-of-Gauge (OOG) transport, marine or transport engineering, gained within one or more of the following environments:
- Heavy lift or specialized transport companies
- Vessel owner or ship management engineering departments
- Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) organizations
- Wind OEM / WTG transport engineering teams
- Port Captain roles involving OOG and heavy lift cargo
- Demonstrated experience supporting or delivering marine transport engineering packages and vessel stowage planning for complex project cargo movements.
- Experience working with multiple vessel and barge types, including RoRo and Flo/Flo operations.
- Experience in renewable energy component transportation is advantageous.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
