Job Description:

The Delrin® Dordrecht A&PC (Automation & Process Control) Engineer will be responsible for planning, documenting, maintaining, monitoring, improving and troubleshooting process control systems in the Delrin® plant as well as in capital projects. The manufacturing organization is the most important client for the A&PC engineer. The A&PC engineer will participate in teams that develop the strategy to upgrade processes and equipment related to process control by implementing modifications ranging from incremental improvements to technology game changes. This includes HMI, hardware and software upgrades. This includes hardware and software upgrades to both the Control layer and HMI layer.

This position requires interaction with operators and mechanics, technical/engineering professionals and management personnel in the Delrin® plant and at the Dordrecht site.

Delrin® Dordrecht site

Delrin® site in Dordrecht is a site with around 200 Delrin® employees. On site there are 2 production facilities that produce Delrin® and are operated "24x7". The Delrin® Chemical process is a High Hazardous Process with one highly toxic material. Delrin® Compounding is the finishing area where the polymer is compounded with extruders and pelletized.

Delrin® Dordrecht is defined as a high risk site with regards to process safety management and falls under the Seveso guide lines (Dutch BRZO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining of the DCS Hardware and Software.
  • Write ABB DCS software. This includes Batch90 sequences, CAD control configuration and HMI software.
  • Is capable to work independently with manufacturing to define software improvements and assist manufacturing in commissioning.
  • Support technical response for incident investigations and operations troubleshooting and Process Hazard Analysis when requested.
  • Is responsible for transfer of product/process knowledge to others in technical groups as well as operations personnel.
  • Provide process control support to capital project teams to implement large and small projects
  • Is capable to work independently on capital projects: define functional specifications, write software, test, assist in loop checking and assist manufacturing in commissioning.
  • Is capable to communicate with suppliers concerning run & maintain, system malfunction, system commissioning and quotations.
  • Is capable to optimize the current DCS system.
  • Is part of the A&PC team
  • Connect to the larger regional A&PC-hub to assure adequate competency support for the Delrin® plant at all times.
  • Connect to the sister plant in the US to prevent inventing the wheel twice.

Ideal Profile:
  • At least a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university - chemical, electrical, computer or related engineering.
  • Experience supporting a software based application in a production environment.
  • Understanding and applied knowledge of client/server architecture, hardware and troubleshooting.
  • DCS experience.
  • Knowledge of Batch90 sequences and CAD control configuration and experience with the ABB DCS engineering tools like composer, Batch90 and 800xA is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Modbus interfacing, OPC and profibus.
  • Knowledge of IP21 Aspentech
  • Knowledge of (PCN) networks and techniques and capable of setting up a PCN network.
  • Siemens PLC knowledge
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package
  • More then one year of demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of fostering a respectful work environment.
  • High level of self-motivation, work ethic, initiative and flexibility.
  • Demonstrate capability to resolve issues using fact based problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand manufacturing processes and process control practices required to support operations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Attention for details
  • Good knowledge of the Dutch and English language
