Our team Advanced Design Tools works with engineering teams from GE Aerospace engineering disciplines to unlock productivity by developing and maintaining software solutions mainly for Performance, Preliminary Design, Fluid Systems and Stress & Life.
We are seeking an Industrial Engineering student intern to support the introduction and sustainment of FLIGHT DECK (lean operating model) tools and concepts within our Systems Modeling portfolio (Performance, Preliminary Design, Fluid Systems).
In this role, you will work closely with the local Program Manager and quality team to help structure and execute projects, standardize processes, and strengthen our value stream to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
You will help:
- Apply lean principles and FLIGHT DECK fundamentals in a software engineering environment.
- Implement and improve project management, quality, and continuous improvement processes across the software development life cycle.
- Visualize and monitor key metrics and value streams to identify waste and support flow/pull concepts.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Support implementation and sustainment of standard work and quality processes across software projects.
- Assist the Program Manager with project portfolio management, including status reporting, risk/issue tracking, and action follow-up.
- Contribute to value stream mapping of key tool chains and workflows; help identify waste and improvement opportunities (e.g., rework, delays, handoff gaps)
- Participate in daily & visual management routines (boards, KPIs, short-interval follow-up) by updating data and highlighting gaps vs. targets.
- Support problem-solving activities (TAGS, root cause analysis, countermeasure tracking) for process and quality issues.
- Help document and maintain standard processes, templates, and checklists for project management and continuous improvement.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Current university student in Industrial Engineering 6 semester (or closely related discipline)
- Demonstrated interest in project management, quality systems, and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with agile project management approaches (Scrum, Kanban, Lean concepts)
- Basic understanding of metrics, KPIs, and data visualization for process performance
Desired Characteristics
- Proficiency with Excel (data analysis, charts, dashboards)
- Experience with any agile/project management tool (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Rally, Azure DevOps, Trello, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Collaborative team player who seeks diverse perspectives and feedback.
- Self-directed learner with strong curiosity and ability to quickly absorb new tools, methods, and technologies.
