What's the role
Shell is seeking a highly skilled Maritime Technical Advisor (MTA) to join our Americas Upstream Integrated Gas delivery hub. The MTA will play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient marine operations, supporting our Powering Progress strategy by driving operational excellence, decarbonization, and compliance across our maritime assets.

What's the role
Shell is seeking a highly skilled Maritime Technical Advisor (MTA) to join our Americas Upstream Integrated Gas delivery hub. The MTA will play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient marine operations, supporting our Powering Progress strategy by driving operational excellence, decarbonization, and compliance across our maritime assets.
Accountabilities:
- Deliver performance excellence by understanding required business outcomes and exceeding customer expectations.
- Act as a safety leader and risk manager, confidently making interventions on vessels, in ports, and at terminals.
- Engage in fieldwork, travel as required and positively influence HSSE & SP and business delivery.
- Apply causal reasoning to learn from incidents and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence using FIT4.
- Ensure effective implementation of Shell Performance Framework, SEAM Standards, Specifications, Guidelines, Maritime Safety Requirements from Transport Safety Standard, Maritime Design and Engineering Standards, and Shipping and Maritime Management System.
- Safeguard Shell's license to operate by ensuring compliance with international and national regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Provide assurance for terminals, docks, and crude oil operations with dynamically positioned shuttle tankers.
- Support digital transformation and simplification initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with PTEs and SMEs throughout the Maritime Technical Function (MTF) and with Shipping and Maritime Centers of Excellence.
- Support and provide coverage for operations across the Americas, including Raizen and LNG.
- Participate in emergency and operational incident response as required.
Preferred Competencies & Enhanced Skills
- Solid experience with DP vessels, including power generation, propulsion, cargo, and critical marine systems.
- Practical exposure to testing, commissioning, and assurance of marine systems (FAT/SAT, class and contractual compliance).
- Strong understanding of power management systems (PMS), electrical load balance, automation, and system integration.
- Proven capability in maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability, including dry-dock support and major equipment overhauls.
- Experience with marine assurance, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with class, flag, and international regulations.
- Ability to support engineering studies, technical specifications, and project execution across operations and new initiatives.
- Effective communicator, able to work across operations, engineering, OEMs, shipowners, and regulators.
Leadership, Operations & Stakeholder Management
- Skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and HSE.
- Strong communicator, adept at translating complex technical issues into operational decisions.
- Experienced in technical reporting, audit preparation, and presenting assurance findings to senior management.
- Effective at building relationships with shipowners, charterers, OEMs, and regulatory bodies.
What you bring
- Must have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer
- Bachelor's degree is required
- 5+ years of experience in Maritime or Naval Architect
- DP Shuttle Tanker experience is a plus
- Maritime experience - STCW/III-2 Chief engineer or 2nd Engineer, expertise, and credentials qualifying for assessment as Authorized Person Maritime Safety, Technical Authority, or Subject Matter Expert within MTF
- Ability to prioritize, focus, and deliver must-wins as a valued member of integrated natural teams
- Fluency in Portuguese and English is essential
