Instrument Commissioning Engineer - Uganda

Location: Buliisa, Uganda (Site-Based)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Rotation: 28 Days On / 28 Days Off

We are recruiting for an experienced Instrument Commissioning Engineer to support commissioning activities on a large-scale onshore energy project in East Africa. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex control and safety systems within a high-profile, technically demanding environment. Reporting to the Commissioning Site Leader, you will be responsible for the execution and oversight of instrumentation and control system commissioning, ensuring systems are delivered safely and ready for operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Define subsystem boundaries and commissioning scope for instrumentation systems
• Review and approve contractor commissioning procedures and strategies
• Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning execution activities
• Witness testing to achieve mechanical completion and ready-for-start-up status
• Manage punch list processes and ensure timely close-out
• Review and approve commissioning dossiers and documentation
• Support FAT, iFAT, and SAT activities
• Coordinate commissioning of:
  • ICSS (Integrated Control & Safety Systems)
  • ESD (Emergency Shutdown Systems)
  • F&G (Fire & Gas Systems)
• Ensure proper system handover to operations teams
• Support cybersecurity compliance and system integrity
• Interface with multidisciplinary teams across construction, commissioning, and operations

Candidate Profile

• Relevant technical qualification in Instrumentation, Control Systems, or similar
• 8 years’ experience in commissioning within oil & gas or energy projects
• Strong experience with:
  • ICSS, ESD, and F&G systems
  • Instrumentation and telecom systems
• Familiar with ICAPS and commissioning databases
• Good understanding of system handover and completion processes
• Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills
• Fluent in English
