More about the role

This is an exciting internship opportunity for you to light the way as a Mechanical Engineer Intern (3D Printing & Product Design) in Eindhoven with Signify.

In this role, you will work at the forefront of additive manufacturing innovation, contributing directly to the development of new mechanical features and product archetypes for our next-generation FDM printer and material platform. What you design and prototype during this internship may be directly used in future product development programs.

You will collaborate closely with our product development team (engineering and product management) and the printer & material team, gaining hands-on experience in an industrial R&D environment where ideas rapidly move from concept to physical prototypes.

What makes this role unique is the level of ownership and impact you will have as an intern: you are encouraged to define your own approach, take responsibility for your work, and actively shape solutions that matter.

This internship is meant for a Mechanical Engineer student who wants to work on the technical product design, but not on the aesthetic design of the product.

• Designing and developing mechanical concepts for new 3D-printed product archetypes using Solid Edge.
• Translating ideas into functional CAD models and physical prototypes.
• Working hands-on with FDM 3D printing technologies, materials, and test setups.
• Collaborating in a multidisciplinary team environment, sharing insights and learning from experienced engineers.
• Taking ownership of your projects, from concept definition to prototype validation.

More about you

While we value and appreciate all applicants, we believe that the following experience and skills will be needed to shine brightly in this job opening:

• You are a Bachelor's or Master's student in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with a strong interest in product design and additive manufacturing.
• You have experience or a strong interest in 3D printing.
• Familiarity with CAD tools as Solid Edge or SolidWorks (or similar) for CAD modelling.
• You enjoy hands-on engineering and are comfortable building and testing physical prototypes.
• You are self-propelling, proactive, and able to structure your own work, showing ownership and accountability.
• You collaborate openly, are curious to learn, and enjoy working in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
• Creative and self-motivated mindset.
• Fluent in English is required (spoken & written).
• You are available to do an internship for at least 6 months in our Signify office in Eindhoven.

• EU students: To be considered for this internship, you need to be registered as a student during the entire internship period. Formal documentation of this may be requested at any time.
• Non-EU students in Dutch Universities: You need to be registered as a student, and your university needs to sign the Nuffic Agreement. The internship needs to be a compulsory part of your studies (receive ECTS in turn). In case of non-compulsory internship, you need to have a letter from the university in which it states that your internship contributes to your personal development, what your learning goals are, and what tasks you will undertake during your internship. The letter has to be signed and stamped by your university.
