This is an excellent opportunity to join AmcoGiffen's in-house Electrical Design team as an Apprentice Electrical Design Engineer, developing your technical capability while working towards a graduate-level apprenticeship qualification.

Business Unit
You will be based within AmcoGiffen's Design & Engineering business unit in York, working as part of a growing in-house Electrical Design team.
The team delivers electrical design solutions across a diverse portfolio of rail and infrastructure projects, including electrification, E&P systems, EV infrastructure and major decarbonisation programmes. Due to increased secured work and a strong forward pipeline, the team is continuing to expand its capability and invest in new talent.
The Role
As an Apprentice Design Engineer (Electrical), you will support the development and delivery of high-quality electrical engineering design solutions under the guidance of experienced Senior and Principal Engineers.
You will build a strong foundation in engineering design principles, standards and project delivery through a combination of practical design work, mentoring and formal academic study.

The Role
As an Apprentice Design Engineer (Electrical), you will support the development and delivery of high-quality electrical engineering design solutions under the guidance of experienced Senior and Principal Engineers.
You will build a strong foundation in engineering design principles, standards and project delivery through a combination of practical design work, mentoring and formal academic study.
Your day-to-day activities may include:
- Supporting the development of electrical engineering design solutions using sound technical principles
- Assisting with the production of calculations, sketches, reports and technical documentation
- Supporting design development in line with safety, quality, programme and cost requirements
- Assisting with surveys and site inspections across project locations
- Maintaining accurate design records and project documentation
- Developing an understanding of construction methodology, CDM regulations and Safe-by-Design principles
- Collaborating with the wider design and project teams to meet technical and programme objectives
This role is specifically designed to support your development as a future Electrical Design Engineer.

- EV Infrastructure & Decarbonisation Programmes
- Rail depot and operational Electrical Vehicle charging design support

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will:
- Hold (or be working towards) a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Be passionate about developing a career in electrical design engineering
- Have strong problem-solving, numeracy and communication skills
- Be motivated, proactive and keen to learn
- Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a design team
- Be willing to commit to a graduate-level apprenticeship alongside full-time employment
- This is an office-based role requiring attendance at our York office five days per week. Applicants must be able and willing to travel to the office daily (YO26 6RW).
