Technician - Mechanical Maintenance

Job Purpose

Perform maintenance repairs and services on mechanical machinery and equipment to ensure efficient operation and reduce production down time for both simple and combined cycle power generation blocks and balance of plant.

Key Accountabilities

• Repair and maintain efficiently a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems in the power plant.
• Attend preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance repairs with minimum direction and supervision, including on call duties as required, and restore the mechanical systems as quickly as possible.
• Assist Technician Engineers or independently attend the jobs allocated with clear understanding of relevant methods and procedures, including associated risks, and select the required tools and equipment to complete such works in a safe and effective manner.
• Carry out maintenance work in adherence with EHS standards and plant operating requirements to minimise workplace accidents and inquiries.
• Monitor any repeated breakdowns and suggest and implement proper resolutions to avoid reoccurrence of similar problems.
• Direct contract workforce to carry out maintenance repairs and services in line with agreed plans.
• Work in an environment with significant exposure to various physical and sensory conditions such as high pressure steam, high voltage, arc flash, high magnetic fields, high noise levels, fumes, hot, humid and dusty conditions, height, splash of chemicals, acids, mineral oils and liquids, taking appropriate measures to avoid risk of danger, accidents or health issues.
• Accept direction from the supervisor verbally or in writing.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Craft/Trade certificate or equivalent qualification.

Minimum Experience:

• Diploma holders: 5 years experience in a similar position in a thermal power plant.
• Craft/Trade certificate holders: 8 years experience in mechanical maintenance.
• Hands-on experience on GE Frame 9E/9FA gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination and other balance of plant equipment overhauls.

Skills:

• Familiarity with all mechanical maintenance tools.
• Computer literacy and knowledge of PCs.
• Ability to work with gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, compressors, pumps, cooling towers and reverse osmosis plants.
• Ability to speak, read and write English to a good standard.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and assertiveness.
• Ability to work effectively in a team, including shift work.
• Self-motivation and dedication.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
