Your role at a glance
As part of the DACH Mechanical Engineering Team, the Mechanical Engineer (mfd) will be based in the FRA, MUC, ZRH region and will primarily support our data center sites in Zurich, Vienna and Munich, with broader coverage across Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany.
The role supports regional teams during the construction, commissioning, operation and optimisation of mechanical and cooling infrastructure. Key responsibilities include regular reporting on system condition and efficiency, identifying improvement opportunities, supporting and tracking improvement projects, and reviewing technical aspects of high-risk changes and incidents.
The Mechanical Engineer will support operations during load-shifting activities, ensure end-to-end process documentation, and lead follow-up investigations and analyses as required.

Your role at a glance

What we are looking for
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the regional team in defining and implementing the NTT Global Data Centers EMEA Tech-Ops (Technical Operations) standards and will ensure that the mechanical infrastructures are effectively maintained and optimised
- Assist the regional team in defining and implementing the Tech-Ops standards and ensure that the peripheral electrical and BMS infrastructure for the mechanical infrastructure is effectively operated and optimized.
- Keeps up to date with data center developments in terms of new technology in close co-operation with our suppliers and maintenance providers
- Help and support the regional team in creating energy business cases for infrastructure change
- Develop realistic plans, set goals, align plans with Tech-Ops objectives and coordinate with other teams and team members
- Ensure that the mechanical infrastructure is correctly displayed at the BMS-System
- Carry out regular tours and ad-hoc inspections of the regional facilities
- Attend any internal or external quality related audits
- Regularly review and develop commissioning procedures including subcontractors
- Hold post-handover project lessons learnt meetings for further improvement
- Conduct meetings regarding the operational performance of the mechanical infrastructure and provide regular updates to the Stakeholders
- Instruct regional personnel on the mechanical & cooling infrastructure in close collaboration with the training department
- Carry out different types of training for the site team with a view to continuous improvement. E.g. scenario training, remote training, tabletop training
- Carry out project management duties if required, e.g. initial planning, costing, procurement, subcontractor selection supervision and management
- Be a part of the EMEA call out team as required
Requirements:
Knowledge & Attributes

- Demonstrable skills in technical management, and collaboration
- Outstanding relationship-builder and communicator, both internally and externally
- Ability to work in multinational, interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams
- A passion for listening to stakeholders and customers and a world-class service mentality
- Industry or manufacturer training in HVAC, (including, but not limited to) cooling systems, evaporative cooling, pumps, pressure systems
- Subject matter experts understanding of operational and maintenance governance principles
- Working Knowledge of Plan Do Check Act (Deming cycle) highly desirable
- Awareness of Root Cause Analysis management frameworks highly desirable
- HVAC/HKLS Qualified for the region
Academic Qualifications & Certifications
- The ideal candidate holds a qualification equivalent to the German title of 'Meister' or 'Techniker' and/or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in an HVAC-related technical field, such as MEP (TGA), building management, or energy management or alternatively an equivalent vocational experience.
Required Experience
- Several years of experience working in mission critical mechanical environment within a large company, IT/Telecoms industry preferred
- Several years of experience in leading a technical management function
- Experience in data centres or a similar environment is considered a significant advantage though not essential this will be a key consideration should multiple candidates be assessed for suitability
Physical requirements
- Remain stationery for long periods of time.
- Operate computer, peripherals, and other office equipment.
- Perform work during German business hours and time zones.
Work conditions & Other requirements
- English and German fluent required. Additional languages are a distinct advantage.
- Must be able to accommodate calls in global time zones.
- Travel required 50% of time.
- Predominantly office based and from time to time will be permitted to perform work from a remote location with stable internet connection.
