Overview

PM Group have a great opportunity as Datacenter & Substation Commissioning Manager for a major hyperscale data centre development in Frankfurt, Germany.

The project includes two mission critical data centre facilities with a combined IT capacity exceeding 50MW, together with associated HV utility infrastructure and critical support systems. Delivered to Tier III concurrently maintainable standards, the project incorporates advanced electrical, mechanical, controls, and sustainability-focused infrastructure.

This is a long-term opportunity to work within a fast-paced hyperscale environment alongside international contractors, vendors, and specialist stakeholders on one of Europe's major mission critical developments.

Responsibilities

Your role
  • Lead the end-to-end commissioning process for the Data Centre and associated Electrical Substation in accordance with the Client Cx Playbook and project requirements.
  • Act as the primary interface between the Employer, General Contractor, vendors, utility providers, and commissioning stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage the overall commissioning strategy, commissioning schedule, testing sequence, and systems integration approach.
  • Lead commissioning activities from Level 0 through Level 5, ensuring systems are tested, documented, and closed out in accordance with project requirements and the Integrated Master Schedule.
  • Chair commissioning meetings during Level 4 and Level 5 activities and provide daily and weekly progress reporting.
  • Manage commissioning risk, issue resolution, energisation planning, and escalation processes through ACC, Cx Alloy, and associated commissioning management systems.
  • Coordinate readiness reviews, integrated systems testing, switching activities, utility interfaces, and final turnover processes.
  • Ensure compliance with project safety procedures including LOTO, permit-to-work systems, electrical switching procedures, and arc flash safety requirements.
  • Support LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning activities including commissioning planning, systems manual development, monitoring-based commissioning procedures, and final commissioning reporting.
  • Support commissioning activities associated with substations, MV/HV distribution systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, and heat recovery systems where applicable.

Qualifications

Your profile
  • Degree qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience delivering mission critical or hyperscale data centre commissioning projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Level 4 Functional Performance Testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing on large-scale critical facilities.
  • Experience with utility substations, MV/HV energisation, ring-fed electrical distribution systems, and critical switching operations within mission critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, cooling infrastructure, controls integration, and commissioning methodologies.
  • Experience supporting LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning processes and energy performance verification activities.
  • Experience using digital commissioning management platforms and Common Data Environments (ACC, Cx Alloy, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of electrical safe systems of work, LOTO, energisation planning, and arc flash safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent English required. German language capability desirable.
