Production Performance & Optimization Leader Major Onshore Oil & Gas Development – Uganda
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Production Performance & Optimization Leader to join a major greenfield onshore oil development project in East Africa.
This is a key operational leadership role within the Field Operations team, responsible for production optimization, well performance management, ESP operations, and integrated field performance across a large-scale production system comprising more than 400 wells, central processing facilities, water injection systems, and LPG operations.
The successful candidate will play a central role in maximizing oil production potential while supporting operational efficiency, integrity management, digital innovation, and emissions reduction objectives.
Key Responsibilities Production Optimization & Well Performance

• Lead initiatives focused on production optimization and field performance improvement
• Monitor and optimize the performance of over 400 producing and injection wells
• Support operational management of ESP systems, well loading strategies, and production troubleshooting
• Analyze production shortfalls, forecast production performance, and identify optimization opportunities
• Manage well integrity follow-up, reporting, and intervention coordination
• Maintain wells operating within recommended performance envelopes and operational limits

Digital Systems & Smart Operations

• Lead implementation and optimization of automated well control systems and Full Control of Wells (FCW) tools
• Support development and deployment of Smart Room and collaborative operational monitoring systems
• Participate in development of digital tools for predictive analysis and operational decision support
• Contribute to greenhouse gas monitoring and optimization initiatives at wellpads

Integrated Field Modelling & Technical Support

• Develop and maintain integrated well and surface network models using production engineering tools such as Prosper and GAP
• Coordinate multidisciplinary studies involving operations, drilling, reservoir, process, and flow assurance teams
• Support startup procedures, operational readiness, and commissioning activities for wells and surface facilities
• Participate in technical specification development, FATs, installation, and startup of operational systems

Training & Operational Excellence

• Prepare and deliver training programmes for operators and control room personnel
• Coach junior well performance engineers and support competency development initiatives
• Promote operational excellence, continuous improvement, and best practices across the field operations team
• Maintain and improve technical repositories and operational procedures

Candidate Profile

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
• Minimum 12 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry within operational production environments
• Strong background in well performance engineering, ESP operations, production optimization, and smart field operations
• Experience working on operated assets within production operations, field operations support, or well performance teams
• Good understanding of integrated production systems, field operations challenges, and production engineering workflows
• Experience with production optimization software and integrated modelling tools such as Prosper, GAP, and PI systems
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and multidisciplinary coordination skills
• Experience with automated well control systems and Smart Room operations is highly desirable
• Fluent English required

• Residential position based in Kampala, Uganda
• Long-term renewable assignment
