Electrical Design Engineer
Surrey - Hybrid
£58,000 + healthy benefits package

We are looking for an ambitious and forward-thinking Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading IDNO!

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a business playing a key role in the evolution of the UK electricity network, enabling the integration of distributed energy resources such as solar PV, wind generation, CHP and other low-carbon technologies.

The Role
You'll be working closely with the Design Manager and take responsibility for technical assessments and design activities relating to the connection of distributed generation onto LV and HV networks.

Playing a key role in ensuring that generation connections are safely and correctly integrated, without adversely impacting network stability, voltage performance or upstream DNO infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical role with the opportunity to take ownership of projects, support strategic initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing development of engineering standards and processes.

Responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer:
  • Undertake technical assessments for distributed generation connections (including solar PV, wind, CHP and other low-carbon technologies) on LV and HV networks
  • Carry out detailed network impact studies, including voltage rise, thermal loading, fault level contribution and earth loop impedance (ELI) analysis
  • Ensure compliance with ENA Engineering Recommendations, including G99 and G100 requirements
  • Use industry-standard modelling and analysis tools such as WinDebut, IPSA, VisNet (or equivalent DNO software)
  • Evaluate network capacity and support grid connection applications with upstream DNOs
  • Identify potential network reinforcement requirements and support practical engineering solutions
  • Liaise with customers, ICPs, developers and DNOs to resolve technical and connection-related issues
  • Support compliance with internal design standards, safety policies and asset management systems
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of technical procedures and engineering standards
  • Support land rights discussions where required, working with stakeholders to minimise legal escalation
  • Maintain accurate project records and contribute to performance tracking and KPI reporting
  • Ensure all work aligns with safety, compliance and operational performance requirements
Criteria for the Design Engineer:
  • Understanding of distributed generation connections and grid integration principles
  • Knowledge of ENA standards, particularly G99 and G100
  • Ability to carry out network impact assessments (voltage rise, ELI, thermal and fault level analysis)
  • Experience using power system analysis tools such as WinDebut, IPSA, VisNet or similar
  • Good working knowledge of CAD (2D)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Why Apply?
This is a chance to join a technically strong and forward-thinking team working at the forefront of UK network evolution. You'll be involved in meaningful engineering challenges that directly support the transition to a smarter, more sustainable energy system.

If you're looking for a role where you can take ownership, develop your technical expertise and contribute to the future of energy networks, this is an excellent opportunity.
