Main Purpose of Job

To support the electrical maintenance team in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems, machinery, and equipment within the corrugated packaging manufacturing plant. The Electrical Apprentice will learn and apply electrical maintenance skills, assist with fault-finding and repairs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while completing formal training requirements

Main Duties
  • Assist qualified electricians with planned preventative maintenance on production machinery, including corrugator, converting equipment, and material handling.
  • Support breakdown response activities by helping diagnose electrical faults and carrying out repairs under supervision.
  • Learn to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and machine manuals.
  • Carry out routine inspections of electrical components such as motors, sensors, control panels, and safety devices.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and maintenance findings.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out protocols, and company policies.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, production, and engineering teams to minimise downtime and improve equipment performance.
  • Engage fully in apprenticeship training, coursework, and assessments to progress toward qualification

Dimensions
  • Plant Size: High-volume corrugated packaging manufacturing facility with multiple production lines.
  • Equipment Exposure: Corrugators, rotary die-cutters, folder gluers, conveyors, PLC-controlled systems, motors, drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Reporting Structure: Works under the supervision of qualified electricians and the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Impact: Contributes to equipment uptime, production efficiency, and safety compliance.
  • Training Scope: Multi-year apprenticeship combining on-the-job learning with formal technical education.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Strong interest in electrical engineering and hands-on problem solving.
  • Good communication, attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Basic electrical understanding helpful but not essential.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and Science.

Complexity and Creativity
  • Involves learning to work with complex, high-speed machinery.
  • Requires developing fault-finding skills and contributing to improvement ideas

Judgement and Decision Making
  • Makes routine decisions within set procedures.
  • Escalates complex or safety-critical issues to qualified personnel.
  • Builds confidence over time to assess risks and suggest solutions
