Position: NDT QAQC Lead
Location: Afungi, Mozambique
Duration: 12 months renewable
Rotation: 28/28
Start date: August

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly experienced NDT QA/QC Lead to serve as the primary discipline authority for all Non-Destructive Testing activities on a major onshore LNG construction project in Mozambique. Reporting to the Site QA/QC Manager, this senior role is the focal point for NDT governance, contractor oversight, operator qualification management, radiation safety, and performance monitoring across the full construction phase.

The role operates at Lead level, coordinating closely with the Welding QA/QC Lead across all disciplines. The successful candidate must combine deep technical authority across multiple NDT methods — including advanced techniques such as PAUT, TOFD, and AUT — with the leadership capability to manage large, multicultural contractor NDT teams in a demanding, remote site environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead review and approval of contractor NDT quality plans, ITPs, procedures, and technique sheets (RT, UT, PAUT, TOFD, AUT, MT, PT, VT)
  • Verify NDT personnel qualifications (ASNT SNT-TC-1A/CP-189 or ISO 9712) and authorize qualified operators per project requirements
  • Oversee all NDT examination activities; review and approve examination results and radiographic/digital interpretations
  • Govern radiation safety: compliance with radiation protection regulations, source security, controlled area management, and dosimetry
  • Lead resolution of NDT-related NCRs; coordinate root cause analysis and drive corrective action closure
  • Monitor and report NDT performance KPIs: examination coverage, accept/reject rates, repair rates, and indication distributions
  • Coordinate NDT scheduling to support construction progress without creating critical-path constraints
  • Conduct periodic NDT personnel competency assessments and organize supplemental training as required
  • Supervise NDT consumable and equipment traceability (films, chemicals, sources, probes, calibration standards)
  • Advise project management on advanced NDT technique deployment (PAUT, TOFD, AUT in lieu of RT where applicable)
CANDIDATE PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical, or NDT Engineering preferred)
  • Minimum 15 years in NDT QA/QC, with at least 8 years in supervisory or lead roles on major Oil & Gas or LNG projects
  • ASNT Level III in at least two NDT methods (RT and UT mandatory), or ISO 9712 Level III equivalent
  • Radiation Protection Officer or Radiation Safety qualification — required
  • CSWIP 3.2 / IWE / IWI-C qualification is valued– Fluent English; Portuguese or French is an asset 10

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 15 years of NDT QA/QC experience, with at least 8 years in supervisory or lead roles on major Oil & Gas or LNG construction projects of comparable scale and complexity.
  • ASNT Level III certification in at least two NDT methods (RT and UT mandatory); ISO 9712 Level III in at least one method is an acceptable equivalent; CSWIP 3.2 is an additional valued qualification.
  • Comprehensive expertise in conventional NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) and demonstrated experience with advanced techniques — PAUT, TOFD, and AUT — including qualification campaign management and deployment in lieu of conventional RT.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable NDT codes and standards: ASME V, ASME IX, ASME B31.3,
  • AWS D1.1, EN ISO 17636/17640/17638/3452, and API standards — including acceptance criteria interpretation for LNG piping and structural welds.
  • Proven capability to lead review and approval of contractor NDT quality plans, ITPs, procedures, technique sheets, equipment calibration records, and reference block certifications per ASNT SNT-TC-1A/CP-189 or ISO 9712.
  • Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) qualification per applicable national regulations, with operational experience managing RT activities: source security, controlled-area management, dosimetry, ALARA implementation, and emergency response readiness.
  • Experience managing NDT traceability for consumables (films, chemicals, couplants), equipment (sources, isotopes, UT instruments, probes, calibration standards), and personnel certifications across a large-scale LNG or O&G construction site.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage NDT KPI reporting: examination coverage, accept/reject and repair rates, indication type distributions, and turnaround time by method — feeding project quality dashboards.
  • Experience leading NDT-related NCR resolution, systemic deficiency management (false indications, high repair rates, procedure non-compliance), root cause analysis, and corrective action plan development.
  • Proficiency with digital NDT management and data tracking tools to integrate site-level NDT performance data into project quality reporting and commissioning handover dossiers.
