Location: Afungi, Mozambique
Rotation: 28/28
Duration: 12 months renewable
Start date: September

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Coating, Passive Fire Protection (PFP) and Cryogenic Splash Protection (CSP) Supervisor to join the Owner's construction assurance team on a major LNG project in Mozambique. This is a site-based, rotational role focused on ensuring the quality and compliance of all coating, painting, PFP, and CSP works carried out by the EPC contractor and its subcontractors.
The role demands deep technical expertise across industrial liquid painting, intumescent and  cementitious PFP systems, and LNG-rated cryogenic protection, combined with the inspection rigour and documentation discipline expected on a major international LNG project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise surface preparation and coating application across structures, pipe racks, tanks, equipment  skids, buildings, foundations, and buried elements
  • Verify conformance to approved ITPs, procedures, and datasheets in line with ISO, NACE/AMPP, and  SSPC standards
  • Control environmental conditions, DFT measurement, curing profiles, holiday testing, and adhesion  verification
  • Oversee intumescent and cementitious PFP application per fire design specifications; verify thickness,  adhesion, and detailing
  • Supervise cryogenic spill/splash protection systems for LNG zones rated to -162°C; verify interface with insulation and barriers
  • Assure compliant storage, batch control, pot life, labelling, shelf life, and traceability for all coating/PFP/CSP products
  • Execute and verify inspections (DFT, adhesion, holiday detection, PFP/CSP thickness) and raise/close NCRs – Review and endorse contractor ITPs, WMS, and QC records; contribute to MC/HC dossiers and turnover packages
  • Enforce HSE requirements for blasting, spraying, chemical handling, work at height, and confined  spaces
  • Provide daily/weekly activity reporting and contribute to final handover documentation

CANDIDATE PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 10 years in industrial coating, PFP, and CSP on major LNG or O&G projects
  • NACE/AMPP Level 2 or 3, or FROSIO Level II or Level III — mandatory
  • Demonstrated experience with LNG/cold service systems, steel and concrete coating, PFP (intumescent & cementitious), and CSP – Strong EPC site experience; prior Africa or remote site experience is advantageous
  • Fluent English (written and verbal); Portuguese, French, Italian, Chinese, or Korean desirable

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in industrial liquid painting, coating, and surface protection on major LNG or Oil & Gas EPC construction projects, with direct supervisory responsibility over contractor painting and inspection crews.
  • Mandatory professional certification: NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Level 2 or Level 3, or FROSIO Inspector Level II or Level III — with certificates valid at mobilisation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems — intumescent and cementitious — covering application supervision, DFT/thickness verification per fire design specifications, interface detailing, and acceptance against relevant fire rating standards.
  • Proven experience supervising Cryogenic Splash/Spill Protection (CSP) systems for LNG service rated to -162°C, including interface management with insulation systems, substrate verification, and performance assurance per project specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of surface preparation and coating application standards: ISO 8501/8503, NACE/SSPC surface cleanliness and blast profile specifications, SSPC-PA 1/PA 2, and ISO 12944 coating system selection for atmospheric and buried service.
  • Practical competence in coating inspection techniques: dry film thickness (DFT) measurement, holiday (pinhole) detection (low and high voltage), adhesion testing (cross-cut and pull-off), and environmental condition monitoring (dew point, RH, steel temperature).
  • Experience with coating/PFP/CSP material management: batch traceability, pot life and shelf life control, compliant storage, mixing ratios, and labelling per manufacturer data sheets and project specifications.
  • Ability to review, endorse, and challenge contractor quality documentation: ITPs, Work Method Statements (WMS), QC records, and inspection reports for coating, PFP, and CSP scope.
  • Experience contributing to Mechanical Completion (MC) and Handover (HC) dossiers, including  as-built coating system summaries, material traceability logs, and inspector sign-off records for LNG plant turnover.
  • Demonstrated HSE competence for coating activities: enforcement of PTW, JSA/TBT, and specific controls for abrasive blasting, spray painting, chemical handling (solvents, activators), working at height, and confined space entry.
