Mechanical Engineering Manager

The Role

We are currently looking to hire a Mechanical Engineering Manager in our R&D department at our coastal office in Weymouth. Do you love working in a fun, forward-thinking environment? Then join us at ASMPT!
As Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will oversee the design and development of advanced mechanical, electromechanical and mechatronic systems, ensuring the successful delivery of products throughout the product lifecycle.
You will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, manage engineering resources and budgets, and ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU product safety standards. Equally important, you will inspire, mentor and develop engineers at all levels, creating an environment where people can perform at their best and grow their careers.

You will:
- Plan the work and resources needed to enable effective implementation of a significant engineering task or project.
- Manage (organise, direct and control), programme or schedule, budget and resource elements of a significant engineering task or project.
- Make and implement responsible decisions that are ethical, inclusive, and assess personal, team and organisational performance.
- Create and/or maintain a culture where everybody has a sense of purpose, knows what is expected of them at work and can adapt to changing needs.
- Develop people and capabilities - Create a sustainable workforce, that encourages and supports each other in achieving personal and professional goals
- Build relationships and networks - Build effective, inclusive relationships and networks, employing the 'inside-out' and 'outside-in' strategies, influencing with integrity.
- Lead sustainable and creative approaches to change, development, and improvement by clearly communicating and engaging others in the process.

- Carry out and record the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence
About You

You Will Have:
- Degree-qualified (bachelor's level or above) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with relevant management experience. Alternatively, Chartered Engineer status.
- Strong understanding of dynamic mechanical, electromechanical and mechatronic systems.
- Established leadership and management experience in technical design including technical risk mitigation.
- Proven experience in manufacturing process definition, design for manufacture, assembly processes, cost considerations and geometric tolerancing.
- Successful application of the knowledge to deliver innovative products and services and taking technical responsibility for complex engineering systems
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
- Knowledge of UK and EU product safety regulations, directives and standards.
- Strong understanding of BS8888 and/or ISO 8015.
- Experience estimating project timescales, resources and budgets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) expertise.
- Knowledge of modern engineering processes and development methodologies.
- SAP experience.
- Experience designing special-purpose machinery.
