We are seeking an experienced Control, Protection & Telecommunications Engineer to support UK TSO projects. The role is client-facing and focused on inter-site telecommunications, protection systems, cyber security, SCADA, and fibre optic networks, delivering compliant solutions across the project lifecycle. This role will be on a one-year contract outside IR35. The role will require the right candidate to work in the Newcastle area.

We are seeking an experienced Control, Protection & Telecommunications Engineer to support UK TSO projects. The role is client-facing and focused on inter-site telecommunications, protection systems, cyber security, SCADA, and fibre optic networks, delivering compliant solutions across the project lifecycle. This role will be on a one-year contract outside IR35. The role will require the right candidate to work in the Newcastle area.
Key Requirements
- Experience working with a UK Transmission System Operator (TSO).
- Proven delivery of inter-site telecoms and protection projects.
- Strong knowledge of IEC 61850 control and protection networks.
- Experience with OPTEL networks, equipment, and structured cabling.
- Detail-oriented, compliance-driven, and comfortable in client-facing roles.
- Working knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443.
- Ability to design cyber security systems from initiation to handover.
- Experience developing zones and conduits, IP address management, recovery and restoration testing, and penetration testing.
- Capable of liaising with client and partner cyber security teams and delivering user training.
- Knowledge of control systems, telecommunications, and industrial automation.
- Experience with PLC programming, HMI design, and SCADA configuration.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, Modbus, and OPC protocols.
- Ability to design fibre optic networks and produce compliant schematics.
- Knowledge of fibre installation, splicing, testing, and specification of panels, joints, and associated hardware.
