The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management and oversight of the equipment owned and/or rented by the company. This position will manage the repair and maintenance program, equipment inventory and location, as well as the critical spares inventory.
Function Description
This position reports to the Vessel Manager. On projects, this position also reports to project management, with respect to making decisions that are in the best interest to the company (fuel and servicing intervals, deliveries, non-critical repair scheduling, etc.).
Responsibilities:
• Always maintain an inventory of all equipment and their locations
• Supervise 2nd Engineer and engine room staff
• Coordinate with Technical Department
• Manage comprehensive repair and maintenance programs
• Maintain all equipment in optimal operating condition
• Conduct annual tank inspections and drydock preparations
• Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Maintain detailed repair records and documentation
• Oversee bunker operations and fuel management
• Track and requisition fuel, lubricants, and water
• Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies
• Process requisitions for spare parts and operational supplies
• Track daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspection
• Enforce safety rules and regulations regarding equipment condition
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives
• Ensure compliance with State/Federal regulations
• Initiate corrective and preventative actions to meet operational goals
Requirements
The employee must have:
• Must have Unlimited DDE or Chief Engineer of at least 3000HP
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills
• Supervision of Staff/Crew members
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Company programs
• Perform other related duties
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong mentoring skills
• Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.
• Ability to work as directed and get your work done timely and correctly.
• Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
• Must be reliable and motivated.
• Ability to obtain TWIC.
• Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
• Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The employee must perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. In addition, the employee must also be capable of: • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters. • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time. • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work. • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means. • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs. • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater. • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights. • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
