Site Electrical Engineer
Location: Site-based, rotational (4 weeks on / 4 weeks off) — remote construction site in Northern Mozambique
Project Type: World-scale onshore LNG development (two LNG trains, utilities, condensate and LNG storage, marine facilities, and large-scale site infrastructure)
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Site Electrical Engineer for a world-scale onshore LNG development, executed through multiple EPC packages. Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Lead, you will cover all LV/MV/HV electrical engineering and construction activities within your area, ensuring technical integrity, compliance with specifications, safe execution, and a smooth transition to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide discipline technical support for all electrical matters on site
- Ensure proper interpretation and implementation of engineering deliverables (SLDs, load lists, cable schedules, electrical layouts, grounding/bonding drawings, protection philosophies, hazardous area classifications)
- Respond to Technical Queries, Deviation Requests, Concession Requests, and NCRs
- Verify design compliance with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and national regulations
Construction Support
- Support site teams on cable installation, terminations, panels, transformers, motors, MCCs, UPS/IPS, lighting, earthing networks, and substations
- Review ITPs, method statements, checklists, and test procedures
- Participate in inspections and joint walkdowns (continuity, insulation resistance, torque checks, Ex equipment inspections)
- Monitor preservation, handling, storage, and installation quality; support troubleshooting
Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning Assistance
- Support development and review of electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures (loop checks, pre-energisation checks, functional tests)
- Verify test pack completeness and closure of punch items
- Assist in energization readiness reviews for LV/MV/HV systems
- Follow up all electrical pre-commissioning activities and support safe system handover
Interface & Coordination
- Interface with Civil, Mechanical, Instrumentation, QA/QC, HSE, and Commissioning teams
- Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings and constructability reviews
- Liaise with contractor electrical leads and vendors on outstanding technical issues
HSE & Quality Compliance
- Promote and apply project HSE requirements
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety rules (LOTO, PTW, HV/LV isolation procedures)
- Verify equipment, tools, and installation practices meet project quality standards
- Report unsafe acts and conditions
Reporting & Documentation
- Report discipline issues, risks, and progress to the Electrical Lead and Construction Management
- Contribute to documentation updates and compilation of as-built documentation and turnover dossiers for mechanical completion and pre-commissioning
Working Environment
- Site-based, rotational position (4 weeks on / 4 weeks off) on a remote construction site in Northern Mozambique
- Camp accommodation with health (malaria mitigation) and security protocols in place
- High-complexity, multi-cultural project environment with multiple EPC packages
Qualifications & Experience
- Electrical Engineering degree (HV/LV)
- Minimum 10+ years' experience in electrical engineering on major Oil & Gas projects (LNG preferred)
- Strong technical knowledge of power generation & distribution (MV/LV), protection & control systems, transformers, switchgear, UPS, motors, grounding, and Ex equipment
- Experience in electrical testing and commissioning activities
- Solid understanding of international electrical standards (IEC, IEEE) and major operator specifications
- Strong HSE culture and experience with site construction workflows
- Excellent English communication (Portuguese and/or French beneficial)
- Ability to work in a multicultural, remote environment; medically fit for remote site assignment
