As a Research Engineer - CFD/Methods, you will be focused on developing technologies to improve aerodynamic, thermal and combustion performance for various GE products. You will perform research and technology development for the next generation of aircraft engine and aerospace technologies.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

You will work in a team carrying out research and development of next generation technologies, for turbomachinery and non-tradition turbomachinery products. Specifically, you will develop combustion and thermal technology and concepts specific to aircraft engines. In this role you will:
  • Independently execute tasks using your technical skills for projects in the field of combustion physics .
  • Work as part of a team executing on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements.
  • Participate in the development of high fidelity computational analyses techniques
  • You will use both proprietary and commercial CFD solvers.
  • Participate in validation & verification efforts to advance computational methodologies and/or to demonstrate new technologies.
  • Interface with experimentalists to ensure high quality data acquisition.
  • Develop ideas and concepts to improve the combustion efficiency and thermal performance and operability of various components in GE Aerospace products .
  • Collaborate with the GE Aerospace engineering community to communicate and validate state-of-the-art combustion and thermal prediction methodologies and analysis systems.

Qualifications/Requirements :
  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines OR Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and knowledge of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and CFD. Experience in meshing & using engineering simulation/analysis tools (such as CFX or Fluent) to model turbomachinery flows
  • Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical flow phenomena
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Good communication skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY


Desired Characteristics :
  • At least 3 years of industrial or research experience in turbomachinery design and analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in meshing & using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), hi-fidelity LES based approach and high performance computing
  • Outstanding programming skills including expertise with FORTRAN, C++ and Python
  • Passion for science and technology and clear evidence of innovation and creativity
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


The base pay range for this position is $80,000 - $150,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary based on the plan. T his posting is expected to close on June 1, 2024
