JOB DESCRIPTION

Test Technicians at NOV Springett Technology Center have the opportunity to be on the front lines of technology advancement at our Research & Development Technology Center, here in Navasota Texas. Test Technicians are challenged with supporting new product development by testing NOV's newest technologies and products before they are commercialized and installed on customer assets. The Test Technician's role is to operate and maintain the test rig and other testing platforms to perform needed equipment or software-based tests. The Test Technician must maintain a high level of attention for safety while efficiently performing manual labor tasks on and around the testing areas. Under the direct supervision of the Test Technician Supervisor or Manager, the Test Technician completes a variety of tasks that builds a skillset and a level of expertise for working with various rig equipment and other NOV assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing rig duties and operating equipment; including the PipeCat, ST-100 Iron Roughneck, Manual Tongs, Pipe Slips, Working at heights, and Mixing powdered chemicals.
  • Frequently use a variety of hand and power tools to perform a range of mechanically oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools.
  • Daily inspection and preventative maintenance of various rig equipment.
  • Performing and documenting daily / weekly / monthly maintenance and repairs of equipment, and various other upkeep as required by operational needs around the facility.
  • Cleaning the rig site, testing areas, and equipment.
  • Learning about new NOV technologies and products to efficiently perform tests and give feedback.
  • Following the direction of the Test Technician Supervisor, Lead Test Technicians, and Engineering teams as needed.
  • All other tasks around the facility as assigned by management, including the Test Technician Supervisors, Rig, or Operations Manager.
  • Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around work environment with many moving objects.
  • Able to perform simple mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication) using whole numbers, fractions, or decimals, to make job related calculations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, the ability to work well with others, and independently as required.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be in good health and physical condition i.e.: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and crawling during the work shift; pre-employment physical required upon being hired.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights (30 ft. or greater) for extended periods of time.
  • Must assume responsibilities to maintain safety and health standards, rules, and NOV regulations.
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout an 8-16 hour workday.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up-to 100 lbs. and repetitively climb steep stairs.
  • Must have the ability to pass forklift and manlift training onsite within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills including the ability to read, write, and speak English, as well as understand and promptly follow verbal or written instructions.
  • Willing and able to work modified schedules that may change daily tasks rapidly. Typically, Monday through Friday but sometimes day shift or night shift with occasional weekends.
  • Must be able to work outdoors up-to the entire work shift in multiple weather conditions including precipitation, high heat or cold, or turbulent conditions.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment which includes working around constantly moving overhead machinery, being within close proximity to loud equipment, and handling potentially hazardous chemicals.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Drilling, Completions, or Production background in oil and gas.
  • Mechanical or electrical aptitude.
  • Knowledge in some sort of trade skill; Control Systems, Welding, Mechanic, Electrical, Equipment Operator.
  • Basic computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Etc.).
  • Prior forklift, manlift, or other heavy equipment knowledge or certification.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with oil and gas equipment or trade.
