Gas Turbine Propulsion Technician:
  • s Gas Turbine Propulsion Technician, you will support Commander Surface Fleet Atlantic (CNSL) Fleet Maintenance Office (N43) as the technical subject matter expert for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and training of surface ship Gas Turbine Propulsion systems and interfaces. As the primary contact you will provide the technical and engineering support for this system to SURFLANT ships. Position success will require technical expertise, ability to coach, and interface verbally and written at all command levels. We are actively recruiting candidates for this position for future work which is expected to start in March 2025.
Clearance Requirement :
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance and Common Access Card (CAC)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that deliverables as required by the position and contract are on time, are of high quality, contain few errors and contain accurate information.
  • Serves as a technical and subject matter specialist applying professional general engineering knowledge and concepts in support of initiatives associated with maintenance, repair, and modernization of U.S. Navy surface ships.
  • Provide both the point of contact and resolution of technical and material problems related to designated, hull, mechanical, and electrical shipboard systems.
  • Be required to give expert advice on Gas Turbine Engine Mechanical and Electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Develop and report recommendations on material performance and maintenance trends of ships Gas Turbine systems and associated equipment to N43C Force Engineer as requested
  • Submit lessons learned to N43 and all stake holders as required on casualties resulting from material failure on Gas Turbines to determine existence of class or equipment design problems and initiate action to minimize the impact of the operating force
  • Track, report and submit Electronic Advisory Record Repository and Tracking System (eARRTs) / Class Advisories weekly, pertaining to Gas Turbine systems and equipment
  • Report status of Gas Turbine Material Assessment Teams and submit updates, lessons learned to N43C Force Engineer as needed.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • High School Diploma required, Associate degree preferred, Bachelor's in Science or Engineering desired.
  • Twenty years naval shipboard work experience as military, civil service, or contractor supporting USN surface ship operation and/or maintenance.
  • Two years of experience as a marine gas turbine inspector preferred
  • Two years of experience in conducting and/or reviewing compliance audits, certifications, and assessments.
  • Specific knowledge in Naval 3M system.
  • High degree of technical skills using Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Detailed knowledge and expertise of Naval administrative and correspondence policies, instructions and regulations required.
  • Two years of experience in developing, tracking, and monitoring metrics and/or conducting deep dive analysis.

Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Up to 25% travel
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
