Job Title: Mine Optimization Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE

The Mine optimization Engineer will report to the Dispatch Specialist and be responsible for the development, maintenance, and governance of reporting systems within Mine Operations, with a focus on optimizing the use of MineStar data. This role is critical in ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with industry standards while supporting operational decision-making through effective report management.

Work with Empire Technology and other contractors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Report Development and Maintenance
    • Design, develop, and maintain reporting frameworks to support operational, safety, and financial performance at the mine site.
    • Utilize MineStar technology to extract, analyze, and present data in meaningful formats for stakeholders.
    • Ensure reports are up-to-date, accurate, and aligned with operational requirements and standards.
  2. Report Governance
    • Establish and enforce governance for report creation, distribution, and modification.
    • Conduct regular audits of reporting processes to identify and mitigate risks associated with data integrity and accuracy.
  3. Data Management and Analysis
    • Collaborate with Mine Operation, Planning, and IT teams to ensure the quality and availability of data sources used in reporting.
    • Analyze operational data to provide insights that drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
    • Manage and monitor data pipelines, ensuring seamless data flow from MineStar and other systems to reporting tools.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with mine operations, safety, and management teams to understand reporting needs and deliver actionable insights.
    • Train end-users in the effective use of reporting tools and the interpretation of data.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for reporting-related issues.
  5. Continuous Improvement
    • Lead initiatives to improve reporting processes, tools, and technologies, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the mine.
    • Implement automation and optimization strategies to reduce manual reporting efforts and increase report turnaround times.
  6. Documentation and Training
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all reporting processes, data sources, and governance policies.
    • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for staff on new reporting tools and procedures.
  7. Compliance and Safety
    • Ensure all reporting activities comply with mine safety regulations and company policies.
    • Support safety initiatives by providing accurate and timely reports related to safety incidents, trends, and preventive measures.


This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity and utility of reports that drive the mine's operations and strategic decisions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge
  • 3 to 5 years of mining experience.
  • Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a copper operation strongly preferred.

Key Competencies / Skills
  • Experience with MineStar or similar fleet management system.
  • Experience with SAP or similar purchasing program.
  • Prior exposure to mine planning software (Vulcan, Terrain, AcQuire) is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Quick learner with proactive mindset.
  • Proven ability to identify problems and devise solutions.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, management and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This role is generally 90% office environment and 10% field environment.
  • Must have ability to stand and walk for short durations, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces.
  • Must have ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces.
