The Materials Technology Lead will work closely with engineering, procurement, and quality teams to provide expertise on material selection, corrosion management, and failure analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the material selection and qualification process for various components in oil and gas projects, including pipelines, vessels, and structural elements.
- Develop and review material specifications, data sheets, and material requisitions.
- Provide technical support and guidance on corrosion management, coatings, and cathodic protection.
- Conduct material failure analysis and recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., NACE, ASTM, API) and client specifications during material selection and testing.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to assess material performance and ensure quality standards are met.
- Review and approve technical documents, including vendor material certificates, testing procedures, and inspection reports.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments related to material performance and integrity.
- Support the procurement team in the technical evaluation of bids and the resolution of material-related queries during project execution.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications / Specialization / IT Skills:
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NACE, API, ISO).
- Proficiency in material performance assessment tools and software.
Years of Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in materials technology, metallurgy, or corrosion engineering within the oil and gas industry.
Technical Knowledge:
- Material Selection and Corrosion Management: In-depth knowledge of material properties, selection criteria, and corrosion mechanisms for various environments, particularly in upstream oil and gas operations.
- Standards Compliance and Testing: Expertise in international standards (NACE, ASTM, API) and experience with material testing, qualification processes, and failure analysis techniques.
