Instrument Systems Engineer
The Instrument Systems Engineer is part of the Instrument Discipline Team and plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of instrument systems through:
Permit-to-Work Assurance: Overseeing and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures.
* Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Planning and executing maintenance activities for system upkeep.
* System Modifications and Change Management:
Preparing change management documentation and performing system impact assessments.
* Leading Complex Tasks: Taking ownership of advanced responsibilities such as obsolescence management, design assurance, project execution and control, contract management.
* Stakeholder Management and Mentoring: Engaging with stakeholders effectively while coaching and mentoring junior staff.
Engineering and Design Skills:
Development, testing, and implementation of instrument systems designs, including but not limited to:
Control Narratives and C&E
Design of system, marshalling cabinet, junction boxes
Instrument cabling design, including smart instruments
Power distribution design, power consumption studies, heat dissipation reports
Rack room sizing, loop drawings
I/O list development and alarm management including alarms rationalization
Bill of Materials
HAZOP and SIL assessments
Hazard Area Classification, Intrinsically Safe design
Familiarity with requirements of industrial standards: e.g. IEC61511, NAMUR NE43, NEMA 250, ISA5.1, ISA18.2/EMUA191, ISA100.11a.
Best instrumentation and control engineering practices
Project Execution and Control:
Experience in front-end engineering design, detailed design, factory/site acceptance tests, commissioning, and start-up.
Familiarity with project control activities such as estimations, scheduling, KPI management, and contract management
Operational and Risk Management Experience:
Expertise in troubleshooting, incident investigation (RCA), obsolescence management, and equipment care strategy.
Strong understanding of risk management, including the Management of Change process, Permit- to-Work system, and bow-tie analysis for risk assessments.
Hands-On Experience, including but not limited to:
Wiring, termination in marshalling cabinets, loop checks, power supply installation/replacement, and chassis and I/O modules mounting/replacement for system cabinets.
Troubleshooting, using handheld tools, instrument cabinets components, field instrumentation, junction boxes, cabling, earthing, etc.
Diploma or equivalent qualification related to Instrumentation. * Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in instrumentation, control and safeguarding systems, project execution, specifically within the onshore or offshore Oil & Gas industry. Expertise in the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Instrument Systems, including interfacing with third-party systems and field instrument installations.
