Position Summary

The Gas Service Technician Trainee in an entry-level position that reports to the Gas Service Field Supervisor and is in training to perform the work that involves servicing company owned meters and regulators and other distribution facilities and equipment. A Gas Service Technician apprentice follows Company, NFPA, DOT, OSHA, state and other regulatory agency rules and procedures in the conduct of their work activities. Gas Service Technician Trainee may not work alone and will receive continuous training from a qualified Gas Service Technician.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Trains in connects and disconnects of service, installing and removing meters and/or regulators.
  • Trains in gas turn on and turn off, including stand-up meter leak test and check and adjusts house regulators.
  • Trains to assists in the restoration of outages.
  • Trains in communicating with customer to assess problems with service.
  • Trains to assists in balancing and coordination of pressure problems during peak demand periods.
  • Performs call out duties under the direct supervision of an Operator Qualified Service Technician.
  • Loads meters/regulators and other materials onto truck at warehouse.
  • Installs and removes meter/regulators for proper placement for installation.
  • Performs some digging when installing and repairing underground gas lines.
  • Communicate with customers about delinquent accounts, service requirements, etc.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.

Secondary Position Responsibilities

  • Receives training as directed by management team.
  • Attends regularly scheduled Safety Meetings.
  • Attends CPR/First Aid Training and other training as required.
  • Becomes familiar with completing work orders for connects and disconnects.
  • Completes time sheets, service orders and other required forms in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains stock of materials on the truck.
  • Completes inspection sheet with documentation of work to be done on equipment.
  • Wears gloves, long sleeves, hard hat, goggles, safety glasses, proper work attire, and other required safety equipment.
  • Maintains ability to administer first aid and artificial resuscitation.
  • Maintains company provided tools and equipment in proper working condition.
  • Installs and removes meter/regulators for proper placement for installation.
  • Attends CoServ University required training.
  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Has learned and is performing disconnects and reconnects, time sheets.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and other departments.
  • Has a basic understanding of Company maps and Procedures Manual, work orders, staking sheets, NFPA safety codes, OSHA safety codes, and any type of Company forms related to work being performed.
  • Knowledge of Company's service area and distribution system, system construction, and familiarity with his/her assigned work area.
  • Has a basic understanding of Company's tariff policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Has basic skills in the operations and functions of computers including but not limited to Windows applications, Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications.
  • Ability to work independently (Gas Service Technicians work alone majority of the time - help is available for jobs that require assistance).

Physical Requirements

  • Works outdoors 95% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Drives company vehicle.
  • Works in no or low light conditions using handheld lantern or spotlights.
  • Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by escaping gas in or near the work site.
  • Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings.

Other Requirements

  • Resides within reasonable response time distance (30 minutes) to office in Prosper TX].
  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
