About the Job:
The Mine Engineer I will report to the Senior Mine Engineer and is responsible for developing weekly mine plans, designing stope drill and blast packages, performing plan reconciliations, backfill designs, and operations support. The schedule for this position is 15 days on at the remote mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 13 days off.

The Mine Engineer I will report to the Senior Mine Engineer and is responsible for developing weekly mine plans, designing stope drill and blast packages, performing plan reconciliations, backfill designs, and operations support. Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering technical support to mine operations and other groups as required, including mine design (infrastructure, ventilation, development) and mine planning (daily tracking and reporting, weekly sequencing for the short range plan).
- Possess a strong desire to advance technical skills and obtain a broad range of experience across the mine site. One of our key goals is to cross-train in various disciplines as advancing experience and time permits within: ventilation, paste backfill, site water balance, mid-to-long range planning, drill and blast design, ground support, surface stockpile, and waste dump management.
- Side Jobs and operations opportunities to be taken on as time and experience permits.
- Reporting activities: daily/weekly/monthly data tracking, and reporting of output vs. plan, tracking various key activities including drilling, mucking, blasting, filling, and reconciliations.
- Regular coordination with Operations, Geology, and Survey groups to implement the weekly and monthly plan. In addition to the creation of forecasts to achieve monthly, and yearly budget targets.
- Assist with moderately complex projects, including estimation of capital and operating costs, stope and development design optimization, and mine infrastructure changes.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
- Responsibilities and compensation will be based upon experience. 1-3 years of experience preferred working within a mining environment. Internships considered.
- Knowledge of geotechnical and ventilation systems preferred, but not required.
- The ability to follow complex written and oral instructions, with sound knowledge of mining methods, costs, and productivity is required. Strong verbal and written communications skills are critical to this position.
- Proficiency with Vulcan, Deswik (or similar) mine planning software, and Microsoft Office computer software greatly desired
- Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
- Preference given to Alaskan residents.
