Job Description

Planning a better future for our communities.

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world's leading multi-disciplinary consultancy firms offering unparalleled opportunities for talented individuals in search of a rewarding career. At AtkinsRéalis we offer more than just a job. We offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world to benefit future generations and the environment. We have a strong Equality, Diversity and Inclusion ethos.

Our UK Environment Practice is a vibrant network of approximately 700 people providing world class consultancy and advisory services. We care about outcomes for our clients and the unprecedented challenges they face including climate change, social inclusion and rapid urbanization. The work we do is important and influential: it shapes the way our clients think, enables them to make better judgements and to deliver their projects in a world of disruption and change. Great ideas come from great people when they collaborate and this is our core strength. We are looking for an experienced Technical Director to broaden our successful and progressive team of Environmental Consultants throughout the UK.

The team is strongly integrated with our transport, energy, engineering and design businesses. We are currently providing planning and environmental support on major UK projects for clients. These include a number of water companies across the UK including Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water, significant rail projects including Trans Pennine Upgrade for Network Rail and HS2, in addition to major road schemes for National Highways. We continue to expand our presence in the energy and renewables market where we are building on successes with hydrogen generation (for example Hynet at Ellesmere Port), electricity transmission (e.g. National Grid), floating offshore wind (e.g. Flotation Energy) and supporting Nuclear Waste Services.

The position requires a candidate that combines an excellent track record in environmental assessment with experience in directing and delivering a range of infrastructure and development projects with excellent business and people skills.

Your purpose:
  • Strengthen technical leadership, assurance, and governance across the EIA and EAM disciplines.
  • Expand the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Assessment Management (EAM) team nationally.
  • Represent EIA and EAM internally and externally to win and deliver client-focused projects.
  • Align EIA and EAM delivery with AtkinsRéalis' mission for growth and success.
  • Drive innovation through advanced processes and technologies in environmental assessment.
  • Increase visibility of discipline capabilities and value propositions across the business.
  • Maintain and improve service delivery quality, informed by client feedback.
  • Support PHoD, Network Chairs, and Fellows in promoting technical excellence and innovation.
  • Advocate for AtkinsRéalis' technical strengths within and beyond the organization.
  • Lead thought leadership initiatives to shape markets and introduce clients to new approaches.

What you can bring:
  • Lead technical development and capability in a specific environmental discipline.
  • Collaborate with PHoD and HoSL to ensure teams have the right skills for current and future work.
  • Coordinate discipline resources across regional teams for efficient delivery.
  • Share project and client insights to drive business growth and improve margins.
  • Support strategic development of the Service Line.
  • Ensure technical excellence and assurance in core project delivery.
  • Strengthen collaboration with the Global Technology Centre to enhance efficiency and capability.
  • Oversee specialist inputs to ensure high-quality, first-time-right delivery.
  • Promote high environmental standards in multidisciplinary projects for optimal outcomes.
  • Produce and review clear, well-written reports from diverse information sources.
