Environmental Advisor – Upstream
Location: Afungi / Pemba, Mozambique
Rotation: 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off
Contract Type: Long-term assignment

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to join a major upstream LNG development project. Working on a rotational basis, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, managing regulatory activities, and supporting the implementation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (EIA / ESHIA) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for a large-scale offshore-to-onshore subsea development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate and implement the Project Regulatory Compliance Plan and Environmental Management Plan.
  • Support all environmental and regulatory activities, ensuring best practices are applied.
  • Obtain and track project permits, licences and approvals; steward compliance status.
  • Interface with design and execution teams to embed environmental requirements into project plans.
  • Review and approve contractors’ environmental deliverables (e.g. EMPs, Waste Management Plans, Spill Response Plans).
  • Supervise and monitor environmental performance and data reporting for compliance with lenders and local authorities.
  • Conduct regular site visits and ensure alignment on environmental monitoring procedures across shallow and deep-water activities.
Project Context
  • Large-scale LNG development with offshore subsea infrastructure tied back to an onshore LNG plant.
  • $20B investment, 17,000-acre site, 18 subsea wells, private airstrip and marine facilities.
  • 5-year construction period followed by 25 years of production.
Requirements
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in environmental management (preferably large construction or O&G projects).
  • Experience with International Finance Corporation (IFC) project funding requirements.
  • Knowledge of Mozambique environmental regulations (desirable).
  • Fluent in English; Portuguese is an advantage.
  • Current BOSIET and OGUK Medical certifications.
  • Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
